Can anyone suggest any decent 6x9s? I'd like a set for my saloon which won't have a sub (ok well not yet), so something with good bass would be good. I'm on a slight budget so not looking for anything priced like the GNP of a small european country!!

Also... anybody seen/heard these:

my advice would be to go for a set of JBL 6x9

I have fitted these to several different cars and everytime they sounded the part! 8)

Yep, got a set of the Infinities at the mo from halfords when they were cheap, but for some reason they sound crap. My old Alpines sound much better!! The infinities sounded great in my ex's cav, but in my nova they sounded a bit limp

had those infinities for about 3 years now. spot on. but they dont have the bass punch that my sony 300W 4 ways had. but then again its quality not quantity :D

ps ive not come out of retirement. this was merely a boredom thing

high, have you tried boschman. they're relatively cheap and good quality sound. my brother has the pro audio ones and their not much. i have the boshman ones, their about 450w and the bass is excellant. however, cant beat a good sub...

hope this helps

would you need to run an amp for the 6x9 or will they run off a head uniit

say 100w each would they run

cooper_nova

u can run them off the head unit but they will sound alot better running of a correct wattage amp tho eg. 180w, 200w max!!

does anyone know anything about powercaps

cooper_nova
02-03-04, 11:12 PM
soz m8 only thing i know about power caps is they r used to boost the signal i think so the amp so it runs better(don't quote me on that tho coz cud b wrong)

badnova

i thought they where for the power feed

powercaps are designed to give back up power to your amp, so if your car is not running the alt, the powercap gives the extra power. this meaning that your amp will have consistant power going to it. (no flat spots)

badnova

how would you wire it up to the amp then

srs1
02-03-04, 11:20 PM
the power cap sits after before your amp. what happens is, the power cable feeds the power cap then that feeds the amp, this way the power gets the power first, so when you get a flat spot the power cap feeds extra power to the amp via the + feed to the amp.

badnova

so it just connects up with both feed and out put togeither on the top of the power cap

srs1
02-03-04, 11:28 PM
power cable from battery to pos on powercap, neg off powercap to pos on the amp/or to the fused block connector (if running more then one amp)

you really dont need a power cap unless you are doing a serious install
more then one amp

badnova

1 1000wamp and 1 450 w amp

heavy duty battery and a better alternator will be needed too. then a 1 farrad power cap should see you right.

positive/negative wrong way round? out of phase...

AGHHHHH

Wiring a cap up as srs1 is sugegsting will do absolutely nothing to help take out the bass induced flatspots lol the wy he has said it to wire it in series, this may remove very low frequency signals from the power reed but thats it.

it must be wired

Positve cap - postive batt terminal - postive amp terminal
Negative Cap - Negative batt terminal - Negative amp terminal (OR alternatively, to the car body at all 3 points)

that will make the cap do its job

FFS stop making me have to come out of retirement to help you guys lol

Checked the connections and they're the right way round... how do check if they're out of phase?
