depends hat your future plans are, if you want to build something different how about going for a 2litre 8v turbo it would produce good power,

as said really it depends on what you want cheap and cheerfull 130bhp 2litre 8v or go with a 16v but expect to be spending out for a decent example

2.0 16v costs as much to transplant as 2.0 8v but 16v engines alot dearer to buy. look at getting 150bhp reasonably easy from c20seh (130 std) 8v whereas 16v is boggo at 150bhp; not really any heavier; see the attraction?? my opinion?
1.6 16v.
its all the rage!!!
u courtin?

I've heard that except for the more power produced from the 16v it only has a high top speed but the 8v sri 130 has better mid range (Acceleration) which i think is alot better!! :P

My plans are probably to turbo charge it after  not really bothered about top speed i'd rather alot of mid range torque.

Does ne1 have stats for these 2 engines!!?

?2-3k+ to Turbo charge a 2.0 8v or ?1k for a C20 LETY hmmm hard choice.

2 cam shafts , double the money

if u have the money for a 16v get that, if your trying to do it on a budget like me, get an 8v, donor cars all over.

Whats the price difference between the 8v and 16v.

I'm also thinking of of going for a bigger engine in coming months but not sure what to go for, 1.6 16v or 2ltr. As i have a 1.2i theres quite alot of work involved.

You can find a 2.0 16v for just as much money as a 2.0 8v. If you want to Turbo your car then the C20LET might be a better option in the long run.

However, it's not just the swapping of engines, you have to strengthen the chassis, uprate the brakes, change susspension, etc. It's not quite as simple as dropping one engine out and putting another in.

no you don't... not if the shell is in good condition

why?

Because of lamda, spi system and general sh!ttyness of 1.2i's. Also brakes, suspension, exhaust system ect

lambda spi and all that is part of the engine which will no longer be there when u drop it all out, brakes u wud uprate even if u had a gsi base model, same with suspension and zorst, well ur gona want a decent one neway with a valver! ;)

as for strengthening the chasis, its prob a good idea if your fitting a big block chassis flex is never a good thing....

you would'nt need to strengthen it for a 1.6 16v

you would'nt need to strengthen it for a 1.6 16v

it's the power more than the weight that causes the problems

Are a few 1600 engines about with more p[ower than the 2.0l's

Just out of interest how would you strengthen the chassis??

if you want the shell to last you will need to strengthen it. i had a mint gte and the standard 2.0 8v ripped it a new asshole. front cross member tore away.

you need to seam weld or stich weld all the joins.

id go for an 8v for simplicity for your first conversion. the 16v does look good but they are more expensive in the long run. if u have the non coscast head anyway as they crack all the time.

you can drive the 8v hard all the time and it will just keep goin. just get a set of carbs on the thing and its as quick as the 16v anyway.

.

cross member problems are from big brakes
