Hello all,
i know this topic has nothing at all to do with Novas, but has anyone on here got a moped. If they have what do you need to aquire to ride one legally on the road(licenses etc), also are they as easy to ride as all my mates say so,basically a bike with a motor.
Finally how much is insurance for one,
as i am currently considering gettting one to get to and from college whilst saving for a car and passing my test,
any help is appreciated

(am not sayin every one with one is a to55er)

Yeah i know they sound like a lawn mower on wheels but they get you there, and are cheaper than a bus pass.

id rather have the bus pass + u get women on a bus perv at them

Adam

gud point, you can't exactly admire the females whilst thrashing a moped at 25mph, plus the bus keeps you dry.

don't be put off by this lot   I had a 50cc (derestricted  ) peugeot speedfight, and it was cheap and convinient transport when i was 16, it gave me more opertunities for work and made getting to college and me m8s a breeze. Just invest in a good helmet, jacket, gloves and a really heavy chain to stop pikeys nicking it. Insurance wise i only insured it 3rd part as i didn't see the point for a year and a halfs worth.
hope this helps 8)

i have 1 they are good as skoob said get you to collage and work and your m8s at 16 .

if u read the contract u dont have to pay the 3 year

Nath

loads of my m8's had them when we were 16 but they spent all there money on scooters and i didnt and i was the first to buy a car and be able to drive! if u ask me i wouldnt have 1 but if u need it for work/school etc then there a decent investment.

AS IN A LAWNMOWER ENGINE ON BIKE WHEELS,
plus a lawn mower doesn't have to have wheels(FLYMO)LOL, :D

right thats enough of the lawnmower talk. :?:

Getting back to my original question how much does it cost to insure a moped, just curious.
Plus i could get a moped for ?600(as if i would pay ?2000 for a moped) , a X reg Peugeot Speedfight, and with ?3 for a full tank of petrol and ?15 tax a year they are easy on the wallet.

I would jsut use it till about July when i should have passed my test(just done reversing round corners and 3 point turns on my 6th lessons), and should have a car

to ride a moped all you need to do is take your CBT about ?70 it is a training course lasts about a day once you have done that you can ride any moped up to a 125cc and on L plates for 2 years and you must do your full test within that period otherwise you have to do your cbt again. hope this helps.

sorry but i have to say that my bike would kick a lot of your arses. it is not a moped but i prefer my bike when i pull up to modifies cars and they try and race me :D :D :D

and i do have a modified nova aswell( ideal for the winter months)
i enjoy both though

Hey Adey, is that your car in the sig.,
is it for sale on Ebay cus i seen your car or a car that is extremely similar,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459553718&category=9858

If it is how come you removed the quick 1.4 engine and dropped in a 1.2, isn't that sort of making the car worse.

Anyway did you have a moped, how much are they too insure?

adey
14-02-04, 02:18 PM
yes that is my car for sale on ebay the 1.2 engine was already in there when i bought it i figured as it was my first car the insurance would be cheaper than the 1.4sr so that is why i bought it.

re the moped i have never had one but i dare say the insurance is cheap enough my first bike was a cg125 brand new on a y plate at the age of 18 i think i was insurance was only about ?300 i dare say a moped will only be a couple of hundred quid if that i reckon i am not 100% sure though

SKoob
14-02-04, 03:42 PM
when i had my moped he first years insurance was about ?350 3rd party only, then the second year was about ?150 which is cheap imo

350 notes for a 50cc moped insurance, i would call that bloody steep seen as my dads car insurance is less than half of that on a 1.6 Escort. The moped does about 30mph and the Escort about 110mph.
I was thinking that insurance would be about 80quid.
I will probably defo not get one now seen as i have got some 1.4SR quotes on my dads name for around the ?450 mark.
And as insurnace is dead money that you have lost completely.

I have got around ?650 so far,i am saving till around August when i should have about ?1300.
Anyway thanks for all your help guys,
cheers

Hmmm at 16 the only bike your allowed has to be no more than 50cc so iv'e been told.

Obviously your bike will win as half the wight of a nova

Adam

A motorbike would win a 1/4 mile race anyday with a Nova(power to weight ratio), but put it on a long race, and see what goes up in smoke.

Also Ben i think you are correct with the 50cc aged 16, i think it goes to 125cc when you are 17(which i am) but correct me if i am wrong,i don't know that much about bikes, but i don't think i will be getting a bike anyway as it ain't worth wasting my saved money of a moped which i won't be able to sell for anything like i paid for it.
Thanks for all your replies anyway guys

Excuse my last post i made i right fuck up of it

adey
15-02-04, 11:30 AM
as seen as you are 17 i would forget about a scooter and go for a 125cc motorbike as they are a lot better, can probably get about 70mph out of it i am not sure now as to the insurance on these but it can't be that bad try devitt da for a quote, but if you feel it is alot of money put it towards your nova then m8ty, i must admit having a car and a bike can be expensive i found out the hard way. hope you make the right decision.

opologies  to ben3042. you are correct at 16 you can ride no more than a 50cc.

i just cannot get excited about bikes...I have never liked them tbh.
mate...at 17 I wouldnt bother getting a 125 or something as every low life w*nker around near you will want to nick it. Well, thats whats it is like where I live anyway. Happens all the time.

The only bikes I like are Harley's...and those chopper's are pretty cool n all.
