C20XE running ruff!

Alrite folks.
I have a slight prob with my 2 litre valver.
When it is ticking over it will 'miss a beat', and sometimes cut out.
I have been told that it is the idle speed adjuster that is located under the inlet manifold.
Or it could be an air leak?
Is it possible to clean out the idle speed adjuster, as I have also been told that using carb cleaner will clean it out.

Any ideas?

clean the icv (air control valve) with petrol or similar solvent, and once cleaned/dryed re-oil it with a bit of new engine oil.
check for air-leaks, esp around the pipe from the afm to the sfi box.
check your plugs/leads and dizzy cap, it sounds like its just losing spark occasionally, causing the 'beat missing'.
this assumes that the timing is all set up correctly.
