no chance. the gte is only just enough to keep up with the 1.6 GTi, it must have been a replica

 unless it was snowing and the pug couldnt get the power down, there is no way any nova could keep up with either a 1.6 or a 1.9 gti round a 'track' or in a straight line

il have to agree with u there Dan, I struggle in my 16 v 106 to get the power down, always wheel spinning, but in my old nova 8v, never had a prob, in even in the wet

It's down to the driver most of the time. If you have a driver that knows how to drive, they can easily beat someone in a higher powered car.

no, ur thinking of the quicksilver, they are a model on there own. Quite fast, and they are unique.

Wont touch a GTE nova, probably same perfomance as a 1.3SR, they are 1.4 8v

its sods law this racing; i barely pulled on a mini the other day; wide arched and wide wheels but otherwise was a tatty c-reg i was understeering like a biatch then wheelspinning when i floored it. i stayed ahead but as i say i wasn't pulling away from him. what we all supposed to assume now; it was a 1295cc?? metro turbo engine?? maybe it was a 1000cc?? thats why im looking forward to my throttle bodies. lol.

lol. Drama queen.
I never said i won i said i was keeping up.

My 'Merit' is a 3-door bored out 1300 sr engine with ast2k cam, weber 32/34 DMTL, Lots of work done on bottom end including Full balance, ground crank, lightened flywheel, Block skimmed and got a 1200 head on. and a tank of BP Ultimate.

For full spec see my profile.

I think its around 90-95 bhp. . Gonna find out soon with a r/r.

i got hardly any ice slowing me down (weight) either.

A standard 1.2 will easily do 102 mph, perhaps a bit more

My hatch will get over 102 ok on the level (just takes a while to get there!!), and that's before any modification to engine. My saloon which is bog standard (bar some clear indicators but i doubt they'll make it go faster :D ) will struggle to get over 90 on the level.

utter bollocks...

if a 1.2 could do 102mph then they would quote that figure from factory. IF your speedometer has said 102, then you can allow up to 10% overread on that which means your 102mph suddenly becomes 92mph. much more like it.

Plenty of people will agree to a 1.2 doing 102 mph mate.

Phil_G
11-02-04, 09:45 PM
it might say 102 but it doesnt actually mean you are doing 102mph. As i explained.

I have actually seen 110mph indicated IN MY 1200. However - that would have worked out at approx 96ish. something like the true top end.

get a bloody grip. If Vauxhall had discovered that the 1200cc could pull that top speed then that is what they would have published.

Ben3042

I aint going to waste my time argueing mate, A 1.2 WILL DO 102 MPH

Enough said.

*bangs his head on a brick wall*

HOW CAN YOU EXCEED THE MAXIMUM SPEED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SPENT MANY HOURS AND POUNDS ATTAINING WHILST THE CAR WAS IN THE HANDS OF A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER?

answer me that with an answer that does not contain "because i can" or "My mates 1.1 can do this"

does it not seem odd that this is one or two mph different to the SR 1300 book speed that, from memory had something like 15bhp different?

Phil

tell u what

find a nice motorway speed camera

get your 1200 upto 102 and drive thru the speed cam

then when the ticket arrives u can scan it in and show us its amazing and that your 1200 actually DID 102 mph

i saw 100indicated down a loooong hill in 4th in my 1.2i

judging by the revs that was actually about 95but i digress

ive had 120 indicated outta the 1.4mpi thing ive got just now but i'd hazard a guess at 110-115 actual speed - was too busy chasing the mx5 to note the revs down

Ben3042

lol at a 1.2 nova going over 100 i think most you would get is 90ish as said you can not go buy the speedo over 70 80 as it will read wrong my m8s 1.3 sr will only do 105 on clock

FFS the last thread like this was locked (for good reason imo) so you go and start another one argueing about the Pug205GTi in comparision to the Nova? If you like Pug 205GTi's then go find a Pug205GTi forum and tell them how much they can beat Nova's by, but don't keep going on and on and on about it on here ffs.

I got my 1.2i up to 130Mph at 8500rpm  , the same arguments pop up every few weeks, with people thinking there speedos show the right speed. Everyone just chill out. There is no point ragging a 1.2 or such because they are not made for high speeds if you want somthing to brag about get a bigger engine.

Jack
12-02-04, 10:00 AM
I think the only way to finish this would be for someone to get a GPS system that can display your speed (I think some radar detectors can) and see just how fast it goes!

p.s my 1.2 did an indicated 115, but that was downhill, and it blew the engine up by the time i got to the bottom of the hill  ... on a private road of course!

i have seen 102 on my clock but theres no way that was 92, id say nearer 90, this was downa hill mind u, i had to rag it in fourth then get into fifth to reach it.

The nova speedo is the worst i have experienced especially at 30. it feels like 20mph!!.

What do u mean i seem to think?, and for your information, there is no pattern on the seats, they are leather and suede alacantra, which were introduced on models 98 onwards What is ur problem anyway?

nah m8,

just sick of people spouting utter b0ll0cks and passing unchallenged.. I hear this bollocks day in day out at work and it just got to me... Still amazes me that people think you can have a fully functioning dump valve without a turbo (i was asked the other day for one to fit an XR3i)

surely the best way 2 check ur speedo is something like rwyb
then ull be able 2 comare ur speed with what they read as ur top speed
i know a 1.2 isnt gunna have enough road 2 reach 100 in a 1/4 mile but ull get some sort of indication
and its all legal
no coppers or speed traps

Just thought I'd have my 2p's worth. I've got a nova GSi and my boyfriends got 205 1.6 GTi stripped out track car. We've both driven both cars and had them both on the track. He's owned a couple of nova's and peugeot's. He agree's that the peugeot handles better standard than the nova but performance wise they are closely matched. However, once a GSi is lowered and the standard "skinny" wheels replaced the nova handles much better.
When out on the track and in a straight line we both agree the nova's quicker (and a better car)!

Nice to meet you all by the way! :D
