Just fitted my brand new battery last week and it's flat again obviously the alternator!But I can hear the power (crackling) coming from the live connecter what can it be ?

have you cleaned the connections up?
is the alternator belt loose?

is ur alternator earthed correctly

also crackling cables is usually a sign of a loose connection (arcing)

a cracking noise is usually asociated with arcing as epo said.

arcing should cause a spark also. have you noticed any of these from anywhere ?

check your battery terminals and also the wires that connect to starter / alternator.

one of mine had come off just the other day, and wire from starter to alternator randomly made or broke contact. meaning very eratic battery charging. fine one minute, broke another - i was just about to change alt when i realised the wire was half off!

he then made a spark putting the wire back on, shat his pants and cut his finger on sharp bit of the engine, and he cried, he cried for hours!

for the record i didnt cry. but my little finger is well and truly mashed.

cut down to the nerve endings and some ligament tissue.

It was the alternator not charging properly,and the crackling is sorted i wired my amp up wrong :oops: live to the grd and grd to the earth wot a twat :lol:

dont worry about it we all make mistakes
i once hooked up a battery charger the wrong way round and bolloxed the fuse up in it and am a qualified spark :lol:
