Is this a good idea?

Is it even possible?

I'm getting a new set of followers anyway for ~30 from Autovaux (damn I'm glad I found these guys!!!) and I can get a GTE cam for ~20 (used)

Should I do it?!?!

u might need to rig up an eletric fuel pump if its a carb engine as i dont thing the gte cam has the required lobe

i fink it has the lobe from what i remember, just aint used on the gte

That was my main concern - that the fuel pump lobe would not be there - but then how do you do a GTE carb conversion?

For ?20 is it worth a bash? Or should I find out?

with an electric fuel pump. its wired to ignition circuit i guess.

This might actually be a good idea.

Then I can go injection (admittedly, slowly but surely) and get a TURBO!!!!

erm *koff*

So, if it doesnt have the lobe, i'm pretty much wasting my time?

nope. get a facet red top fuel pump, or any low pressure electric fuel pump and wire/plumb it in, job jobbed

Just compared an E16SE (GTE) cam with that from a 12ST (1.2 carb) and there is a lobe on the gte cam for a fuel pump. It looks slightly different and could be described as having more, um, lift I suppose. On examining the fuel pump it looks like it shouldn't be a problem but don't take my word for it try it yourself. you will need to use the 1.2 cam carrier as on the gte one the whole for the fuel pump is blanked off and would need drilling.

There is no slot in the dizzy end on the gte cam so you may find you have to change your distributor setup. I'd go for it if I were you

GTE's dont have carbs as they are fuel injection. i take it you mean put the injection inlet ect onto the 1.2 nova, I wouldnt bother.

The cam will go on the 1.2 as i done this to my 1.2 ages ago.

Mine was a carbed version

So what parts do I need to change the cam?

Just the cam itself?

Thanks

If you are prepared to trawl scrappies  then you will find one - you'll be under the bonnet for 1/2 an hour at least though - so almost no chance of nicking it!!

The GTE cam I'm getting is a bargain (hopefully) and fingers crossed, it will improve my top end power (i'm aiming for 100BHP out of a 1.2)

best bet is to just buy a Kent AST1 (if the plans are to not mod it too far)

as for 100bhp from a 1.2 with just a gte cam, good luck that will happen at about ohhhhhhhh 9000 rpm.

Ive done calculations (and will publish them on here at somepoint) that surround the 1.2 and how to tune it for some minimal (and maximal) gains while acctually doing very little work lol, BUT the cam is the key and a GTE simply isnt quite good enough. the 1.4 (sr or normal, its the same cam) seems the best of the bunch until you hit reprofiled ones

GTE cam fell through (guy sold it for 45?!?!)

I'll take the SR if ya like
