probs with head lamps

for some reson the headlamp dip switch does seem to operate the dips in the headlamps
this is needed for a mot isnt it
what could be the prob and does anyone have a wiring diagarm for this

Do they operate if you pull the indicator backward (as if flashing someone)? Does the switch click when you push the indicator forwards to switch to main beam?

i found a relay under the steering wheel and i took the wires off of it to see what is was there for
and then i thought the headlamp dip didnt work
