Hi, with my project GLF i have got some front coilovers and shocks and springs for the rear. the kit i had bought only supplied about -30mm rear springs  so therefore i need to buy some lower rear springs.

The rear end of my nova will be stripped out and caged, therefore not much weight. no i have seen novas with 60mm all round and they do look pretty low, then i have seen pics in mags of 80mm and 100mm.

i have std rear arches which i dont really want to fiddle with and the car will be going on either 16" softstars, speedlines or MO's narrow as poss with et49.

with the front coilovers nice and low, i want the rear to match, but dont know what rear springs to get!

the front will be like this, probably lifted a tiny bit so that i can have full lock! so need the back wheel tucked up the arch some  (that pic was with the coilovers at their lowest drivable(ish) setting i think

I had some springs made up at coilspring in Sheffield. I sent them some -30mm springs and asked them to reduce them another 60mm. When they came back the coils were compressed so much that when they were put on the car, there was hardly any movement. This made for a really low car, but it was unbelievably harsh. The problem was the softness of the spring. Had I asked coilspring to take another 40mm of the spring I think I would have been ok. You're best bet is to pm Breeny. He's just had some springs made up (not sure if they were done at coilspring though) and they are really low, yet have enough "spring" in them not to compress fully.

As Jim said coilsprings are your best bet.

I had a set made to 60mm and the car sits just right, arch just meets the top of the alloy. Although i know people on here have had lower sets made by them.

Give them a call with your requirements and they can make springs to suit.

Hi

http://www.coilsprings.co.uk/

just to add another sickening "ive had those" style story, my G/f has coil springs units on her calibra. The guy who fitted them reported them to be of fantastic quality and fit. car rides much better than before. All in delivered cost was approximately ?130

i bought a super cheap, pre mounted kit from pvd a while ago, supersport i think, 2 front height adjustable coilovers, and shortened and stiffened rear shocks and about 30mm rear springs. only cost ?150 and were as new (?399 in most places i think!)

jules, how did your nova ride with the rear springs?

krobinson, have you any pics of your car with the -80 springs, also is your car stripped out or full interior?

No noticeable difference from when they were 60mm springs, it was hard at -60mm and just as hard at -90mm!!

My old Gsi was -80 at the back

You can just about see the height it sat at. But basically it was almost level with the alloy at the rear. I sold them springs and had another set made, which hopefully will be lower again! But if not they will lower them more for free.

As for changing your wheels mate i think you should keep the wheels you have in the pic, There too many Nova's with speedlines on them. How many Nova's do you see with the wheels you already have?

There looks good imo

gonna phone coilsprings 2moro, see what advice they give and some prices most importantly.

gonna have to get it sorted and some new rims this week.

looking at softstars or the latest rims on the astra sxi mk4 1.6 (10 spoke i think 16")

Rick Draper

Them 16's look small, Nick Caro has them on his valver and IMHO they dont look right. Keep the wheel you have on but get them machined down to a 49 or 45mm offset. Rick

not the nick caro type ones, the ones im thinking of are more multi spoke ish, and are on the newer sxi astras and sri's.

will probably go for softstars i think.

what springs do you have chris? or are they coilovers?

Rick Draper

Nick is now runing a 10 spoke vaux wheel, similar style to the technomagnesio detroits. Rick

i sent my 30mm springs this morning to have them shortened another 60mm. with their 48hr turnover im hoping to see them back by end of the week which is ideal.

all that is then left is to choose some wheels.

i shall post some pics when i get the springs back.

thanks for all your help :D

Keep the wheels you got mate.

Just do what Rick said and have the offset machined.
