i dunno bout this there may be an easyer way but i THINK u have take the glass out fit a planel weld > filler > smooth > paint,
its a lot of effort. Why do you want to do this? are you trying to lose as much weight as possible? Youre best bet would be to replace the sunrrof and stick a sheet of polycarbonate in it's place instead. I think you'll find if you try welding a sheet of metal in and filling/smoothing etc it'll only crack after time. If you get tinted polycarbonate this should help stop the sun from coming through.
dont weld it u will warp the roof big time

he need sto remove the glass for rallying safety rules i believe, james, just get another sunroof frame remove the galss and tack and smooth a sheet of steel into that then fit it to the car, easiest way it think. i was told ages ago that if u can actually find a maestro with a metal sunroof they fit the nova exactly apparently, btu we have tried aint we james me old mukka! :P

Why do you want rid of it anyway/
for the reasons novashed said. Yes we have been looking but cannot find anything. Might just have to be a plate on frame job.
