Hey,
I got a 1.2 and i was wondering which of these would be more powerful and how much it will raise my insurance? Also how much should i be expecting to pay for each?

1) A full exhaust system
2) Performance manifold
3) New performance camshaft

Other tips on how to cheaply increase acceleration and speed would be helpful.

Thankyou Seb

Best thing to do is contact your insurance and ask them how much extra you would have to pay if you made those changes... depends on a lot of other factors too really.

strip the car to loose weight... rear seats, spare wheel, jack, sound proofing etc etc

^^ this will help at lot more than any performance part for a 1.2. You get an increase but very little. Plus it is also cheaper.

and if the ins ask the car was stipped for some mot welding work on the floor and you didn't want to have a fire

One of my best mates gettin a corsa 1.2i. He's gettin a bodykit, i'm not, so he'll have added weight but i wana cane his ass at the lights. Other than strippin and air filters (which i already got) is there anything that i can do/buy (other than engine conversion) to make sure i'll beat him.

thanks for the help,
Seb

depends which engine u have and which he has

if uve got the carbed nova engine and he has the early 1.2 8v spi corsa engine you;ll whip his ass anyway as the 1.2spi has 45bhp and the carb nova has 55

if uve got an spi engine and he has the same then it will be close i guess

and if hes got the 1.2 16v lump thats pushing 75bhp which is the same output as a nova sr so u might struggle a bit regardless of which engine u have

It ain't got a carb, I got a K&N pancake filter instead. His corsa is a 1.2 LS. I ain't got an spi either, its a 1.2 merit. Have a got a chance of beating him?

lol "pancake" filter??

What gearbox do you have? In my experience, I can get away quicker in my 4 gear 1.2 than my mate martin in his 1.3SR 5 gear. But then he goes flying past me when we get around 30/40.... :x

Will, why wouldn't H reg give a clue? I thought it was only K reg that was spi on the 1.2s, all the rest were carbs?

i think they changed it to the injection when they brought the mk2 out on the h plate.

mk1 Y-H reg in effect

mk2 H-K (L) reg in effect

all mk2 1.2's were SPI witht the exception of the flair that was a 1.2 carb's mk2 car

H reg could be mk1 or mk2 depending when registered meaning couldnt easily tell if it was a carb or SPI

merits (and meri+'s) were made thruout most of the nova 11 yrs of production but the mk2 were spi and mk1s carb AFAIK ;)

Mk2 Merit was carb in 1991 then vaux must have switched to spi in '92 (so some J and K onwards reg)... mine's a J and is carbed.

strip it as much you can mate, have 1 seat if poss!
losing weight will make more difference than any 'off the shelf mod' for a 1.2

try putting in gte calipers and discs. its not just about getting there the fastest. if you can out brake him into a turn, you'll gain distance on him.
