aerial help

well i have just got an adapter to fit my funny screw terminal aerial and its all hooked up but for some reason i cannot get a signal still if u listen really carefully u can just make out some talkin but it seems like it need amplifying. im using a kenwood kdc 6024 head unit. what could be wrong.? also there is a tiny little square flat black connector also comin from the aerial what is that for? i have a feelin it needs power.

is it a standard (ie front right wing) aerial?

there should be with kenny hu a extender, so the plug goes in deeper into the hole and makes a solid connection. if not there a loose wire somewhere.
