well i went to velos today. to my suprise they told me to just get the throttles/dta fitted with an ast2 cam. thats it. arp's if i insisted. not even exhausts are worth bothering with, manifolds, blah blah. and the engine wouldn't even need to come out as bolts can be fitted with sump off. so thats it. ?2000 and it should be between 140-150 bhp. (along with my alrady done b+ 'head). weren't sure of torque. admitted that for same cash the 1.6 16v would be 20-25 bhp up on my 8valve. he said to class mine like the 1.4 16v.
sounds ok to me. just wondering whether i could stretch to a 1.6 16v... the saga continues.

for ?2k you could seriously tune the 8v that you have. Go for carbs and you could be looking at serious power. I think you need to decide if you want 8v's or 16v's before you start spending.

hang back for a short time longer and go 16v on throttles - plenty of power and you can still drive around in economy and with speed while more cash is saved, should you so wish

although

there's been a massive 8v revival going on of late! The results are there to be had with 8v, you've already got the head and you know the background of the engine

im not sure  sorry mate!

you could do alot of things for 2k!

Thing is. when your spending money IF you go it alone you have no backup and a limited amount of information to work with.
Now im not building up velos here or any other company. But if you pay a decent company to do your work. then more than likely you will get a good job done. good after service. and any info you require.

personally i dont have tools nor do i have space to carry out such engine work. I still under take the smaller jobs myself. but there we go.

Id opt for 16 valve power. i think its a case of the potential in the engine.
and yes 1600 16v id say. i could have built a monster of one for wot ive spend on me 2 litre 16v.

Engine- ?200ish

Headbolts, Gasket kit etc- ?100

TB's- ?1300 if buy complete kit, may save a few hundred if you build up the parts yourself.

ARP rod bolts- ?70

SBD rollers- ?80ish

Is more than possible, obviously you can go much more involved with Cams, flywheels, headwork etc but that list above will build you a pretty solid engine wich can yield decent results and give you some change.

In the last 3 months i have been offered 4 engines ranging from ?100-200 in need of rebuild, what does it matter if going to be done anyhow.

The C16 XE's suffer from stupid owners removing them from corsa's and fitting 2.0l 16v's for some daft reason :!:
