What is the best to go for the universal type with the slits or the proper GM ones, never changed em but both need doing before the MOT on friday.

obiostly its easier to fit the universal one, but these dont last as long as proper gm ones. the gm ones are a bit of work but if you have a haynes then you will have no trouble changin them, will last for years(probably outlast the car! :D

m8 had loads of trouble with the universal split ones go for the gm 1s...

Ben i've got to change all 4 of the CV boots this weekend (im not looking forward to it because its a VERY messy job!) and i went for the GM ones.

Cut the old ones off, give the joints a good clean, take 1 joint off then slide new boots over shaft, re-grease and tighten. easy!

(im sure i wont be saying that at 11pm Saturday night!)

easier just take the bloody shafts out and do it on a bench.

the universal 1s are crap, hard rubber not the tough stuff like from vuax

constant velocity joint boots

basically keep the constant velocity joints alive by storing grease and protecting from dirt etc.

if they split then the grease flies out and the joints wear quicker

buy a haynes

theyre dirt cheap on ebay.

that will tell you EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about your car. and take everything apart, and attempt to put it back together again :lol:

Gutted have got loads of good sets on shafts but there all 28 splines and my shafts are 22's will take them off though as got to swap suspension anyhow.

whats stopping you just putting the entire 28splined shaft on the car?

unless its a valver :lol:
