my grand day out

yes i ventured out in the snow :(

what should have been a one hour rolling road session turned into a bit of a pain! and circa 5 hrs long

for those of you that know i have been doing my engine build progressively and slowly rather than build it all and drop it in. partly because of funding, partly because of time constraints

anyway long story short. i swapped my inlet t40 manifold at CP workshop and since then ive had a VERY LOUD tweet, EXACTLY like a bird. it pi$$ me off big time as im bored of the trill and bird seed jokes!

on arival at velos imediately they said inlet manifold is leaking. they KNEW exactly what was causing noise!

turns out on the injection head where the egr inlet is, i had blanked it by tapping/threading it and putting a big bolt / washer in it.

the old manifold was fine, but the new one appeared to have webbing in a different place or diffrent cast i didnt know about, which resulted in the washer being sandwiched between the head and inlet manifold.

so cylinder 3 was chuffing out power.

all was removed, and refitted at velos, the offending washer was removed / modified.

even with a little leak i managed 138BHP at the flywheel which is 110 at the road wheel. and 126lb torque

im happy enough with that (for now) :D have to see what times i can get in at the pod with my new car plans, dont see why sub 15 shouldnt be achievable - see you at the pod

Please can you tell me how you managed to loose power between the wheel figure and the flywheel figure, it would apear you have a super transmission that increases power  Rick

in exagerated terms, looking down the manifold its banana shaped now - its nowhere near that bad! putting an engineers straight edge down it showed it wasnt that far out, but ive warped it running with it twisted kinda thing.

we tried to seal it up and nip it up tight against the head, it seems to be holding, but there must be a tiny bit of air escaping still as spraying carb cleaner still makes engine go faster kinda thing.

we nipped it up a bit tighter, and its holding out like, to remedy it PROPERLEY though, it needs to come off and be face skimmed in the same way as a head or block.

will, neil, mark, jim, elsey - cheers.

jim, at velos they swapped the pump acelerator jets and also air corrector jets, so it wouldnt have got its best time, and also the weather put me off a bit, not having done it before i didnt fancy it with the track conditions the way they were

elsey - it does feel nice to drive :) the power curve is very smooth and its a nice little runabout round town now, its great to drive, stick it in fifth gear and you can cruise round town easily with the final drive the way it is. acelerating from 25 -> flat out if you want to be lazy and not change gear!

its nice to have the power to acelerate.

sound of the carbs? - - - MUHAHAHA *THE* best part of them

as far as i understand it mike and stu are sitting on the m1 doing about 80

stu sees a ferarri coming up and flashes mike

mike sees it too and thinks cool

the ferarri passes extremely fast and stuck to its rear bumper is CT (about a meter away) - they didnt even see CT till they passed he was that close

after that ferarri gave up and pulled in and CT did too

surely if you were doing 120ish you mustve been very close to redline CT?

i thought it would be another scooby or porsche, but a prancing donkey. fair play mate.

you seem to be going for the classier (ish) marks now, started with trying to draft a jag if i remember rightly lol

nice smooth curve mike, just need to work on the torque "curve" a bit ;)

Right lets just clear this up!

Im not saying i beat or whooped it or anything else like that.
Just before me limiter i let of and pulled over.

But up to that point i was suprised that i managed to stick with it from around 50mph! Perhaps he wus taking it easy or whatever id ont know.
But wus just funny really.
The car in question i think was a modena.
around 390bhp 275lb ft torque weight i think around 1300kgs
they !/4 mle around 13 secs i think. dont take this for definate!

As for mine im only around 700kgs 200bhp/172 lb ft torque 1/4mile unknown yet for current running spec

Perhaps i have a good weight advantage there. maybe that helped ect
But like i say just a bit of fun!

All performed on private land! lol

private land provided by the government?
