Im going for a conversion on my 1.2 but want to know what the bhp of the two engines above are. The 1.6 Gte or the 1.6 16v. I have the money to spend about 1000 on tuning it up. What sort of bhp would I be looking at for the 1.6 Gte with Full exhaust with Manifold, pipercross viper induction, super chip, cmas, gas flowed head because my mate says he can do all that for me.

Cheers

Is that ?1000 for buying and fitting the engine as well? Or is that just to tune it once its in?

the 8v is cheaper to tune

for a start off, it only has one camshaft instead of two!

having said that, you dont have to spend as much on a 16v, to get the same amount of gains you would from tuning the 8v.

the 8v isa 100bhp the 16v 106bhp (unless u find a c16xe in which case 109)

superchip is a waste of time
viper induction seems a waste of time too

i'd do the following on an 8v:
b+ head will cost u 450ish
twincarbs ~300-400
cam kit ~200

that will get u upto 135ish bhp prolly a good bit more if u arent selective about which RR u take it to :P

the 16v is a different kettle of fish

is dispak driven meaning you can just chuck twincarbs on u need some kinda mappable ignition management which will prolly take place of the cost of the headwork on the 8v (the 16v head flows better as standard)

16v's are harder to tune in general but WILL get more power - there are a few 200bhp 1.6(5) 16v engines around so ive heard

really upto you which route you take - the condition of the block is also important so it may be an idea spending some cash on getting it rebored/new pistons etc specially if its an 8v as in general they have done more miles

ps look at MC's 8v tuning post

So it looks like ill get the 8v I have about 1200 to spend on just tunign alone. How hard would it be to get the twin carbs on

attaching em to the engine is easy setting em up u really need a rolling road

if ur putting a big blok engine in (1.8 8v) then why not go all the way and put in th 2.0? 115bhp (or 130bhp if ur lucky to find an Sri donor). And they are the exact same as each other apart from capacity.

Is insurance an issue?

That costs too much with all the welding, My mates got a nova gte witha wrecked back end so Im going to have the engine out of that now and spend some money on it. Cheers for your help

you don't have to weld

38% power improvement is good. i wonder what % improvment i will be looking at when carb is set up.

One point on the Corsa 16v engine: According to Total Vauxhall the engine is 106bhp because its been restricted on purpose with 6ft. of induction hosing. If you replace it with a Mantzell Power Box you get instant +22bhp.

Mantzels are good but not amazing and there nigh on ?500 and go for ?400 second hand.

I seem to be getting a reputation already and my engines still in bits, lol.

The 1.6 8v is a good engine, but obviously you can get more from the 16v. Realistically you can spend up to ?2000 tuning the 8v or ?4000 tuning the 16v. It just depends how far you want to go.
