I'm a very poor man with lots of bills to pay! :( . My car's on -40mm springs. Does anyone know for a fact whether the ride quality with uprated shocks is so much better that simply I must buy them. Or can I make do with a new set of standard shocks?

replacement gas shock absorbers will make your car ride better simply because they won't be as tired as the old ones. sticking a few new suspension bushes in will tighten up the feel of it quite a bit. but if you have already fitted harder springs, then the ride will be harsher than standard.

All Nova's rattle - Mines got an added problem of the fusebox rolling around! (Yes I know It's bad - the alarms in there as well somewhere! :? )

Anyway, springs/shocks - If you want your car to handle then your gonna have to get used to a harsh ride, you cant have both. I'd much rather have the handling, My car doesn't take passengers! 8)

If you just want the lowered look stick with your standard shocks, and if you're feeling very cheap cut your standard springs as well and forget about lowering kits....

just make sure your rear springs are secured in some way, i.e cable ties or similar

not all novas rattle. only ones that have done more than about 50000 rattle. about lowering, if you stick shorter springs in, and your rear bushes are ok, then you should not need to fix them in place unless you are a professional canal bridge jumper.
