I read in my Haynes manual that for a Nova, such as mine (1.2), a GTE camshaft will be easy to switch with my current one and it will run well. I came across a 1.6 Injection camshaft in a breakers yard and was wondering if this will be as easy to switch and run as well as the GTE shaft.

Thankyou
Seb

definitly, imo, for a 1.2, theres no point going all out on it, a GTE cam will do fine, and you will gain a noticeable difference!

is your nova a carb or spi?

u may need to find a 1.4 sr cam

the gte cam prolly wont have the pump drive lobe or the fuel pump

well there u go

14sr is a bit better too - it has higher lift on the exhaust valve

So is a 1.4 sr cam better than both a GTE cam and this other 1.6 injection cam i found?

Does anyone know the duration of the 1.4 and 1.6 cams? In the performance cam world, higher lift isn't always better, duration plays a big role.

on a very rapid and not overly accurate measurement i did on a 14NV cam nearly a year ago its about a 240 deg duration, and id assume the 1.6 is a similar figure too.

only major diff will be the intake/exhaust overlap times

i have the same nova 1.2 with a carb and i was looking for a new cam and a mate said to go for a 1.4 sr for acceleration, which is what im really after. will this do the job?

You might end up losing performance if you fit cams that are that old?

Look at it this way, 1mm of wear on an old cam or follower looses 1mm of lift. Followers normally wear quicker than cams, and most followers in a 15 year old engine will be pretty worn. Just fitting new followers will gain power!

Slim Jim is selling a piper 285 cam, nearly new with numbered followers for ?100. I'd recommend it.
