I've been looking at 1.2l Novas as a first car.

But I've been told to watch out for the OHV ones? Are all 1989 Novas going to be over head cam?

Please put me out of my misery, as the owner is telling me one thing, and the web is telling me another!

Thanks!
Damian

You should really get a Overhead Cam Engine, the OHV-Overhead Valve (whilst having no Cambelt is a bonus) is found in the 1litre novas using a pushrod. I don't think any 1.2 Novas had OHV engines, all of them had a modern OHC unit, only 1 litre had them. The OHC engines are more powerful and modern. Stay away from the OHV if possible. but like i said only the 1L novas had them, so all 1.2 should have the OHC, unless they have been converted to a 1litre(which seems unlikely). That is why you see most 1L Novas been converted to a OHC engine which all the other Novas have.
Hope this makes sense
Hope this helps

Looks like I've found a bargain then!

?300, 46k miles, Rear arches recently rewelded and repaired, new tyres, CD player etc!

WOW!

It is 200 miles away though :o

Thanks!

yeah

1.0Nova's are Overhead Valve (OHV) = Not as good and tend to be noisy

1.2's upwards have Overhead Cam (OHC) = Better

And 16v engine are obviously DOHC (Double ......)

Taxed for 2, Mot'd for 9!

No problems according to the owner :D

The test drive reveals all!

the only vauxhall 1.2 OHV engined cars to my knowledge are MK1 astras, you mite find a few 1.2 novas that have had that engine transplanted

the large OHC stamped into the rocker cover usually gives it away ;)
