What is the difference between a charge cooler and an intercooler on turbo cars?

Which one is better to have?

is a charge cooler water cooling and an intercooler air???

cheers

Yeah you've got the basics of it. Chargecooling is a water cooled box sitting somewhere in the inlet track after the turbo, so obviously you've got a pump and rad to go with it to keep the water cool. Intercooling is air cooled and again is mounted in the inlet track after the turbo. As for which is better I've seen mixed opinions. You normally find charge coolers are used where space is tight, or it's difficult to get an intercooler in direct air flow.
If Rick kept his car on the road long enough we might have been able to get a good comparison with Breeny's but Rick has more money than sense when it comes to his nova ;)

LOL Some places say a charge cooler is better when going for large BHP but at the same time you need a equilly bit water rad to cool the water and a bigger charge cooler to cool the charge faster and more efficiently. The only big advantage i can see of a intercooler is the fact there is nowt to go wrong, no water pump etc to fail. Rick
