Hi guys. as you all might know i joined this club yesterday as a bought me first nova. My real pride and joy is a pug 106 gti which i bought about 6 months back and gave to Pug Performance down south to do a full efi throttle body conversion plus loads more. I spent a total of about ?7000 for conversion and styling. This was given to them a few months back and is due to arrive soon. The Nova was a nice toy to run about in until a got me Pug back. Now here comes me bad news!. When i had the Peugeot i overtook a woman (teacher!) in the Tyne tunnel (this is a tunnel which is in Newcastle). The reason i overtook her is becasue she was taking the p***. She was driving at 20mph in a 30mph zone, Harsh breaking when nothing in front of her!, generally being a plonker. Well i overtook her and carried on (Not allowed to overtake in the tunnel, marked by solid white lines). The only reason i did this was to stop her ending up in the front of me car!. Well she decided to get to the other end of the tunnel and report me!. A few weeks later i got a letter saying what had happened and i gave a statement to the local police as they also had me on camera. I was up at court today and guess what they did?..They f***ing banned me for driving for twelve months and i have to sit ma test again!. For something like that i thought this was totally unreasonable. I can't believe they did it. Am absolutely gutted. What do you guys think?

does seam harsh. but my mate got 3 points on his licence for overtaking a milkfloat in his metro at 3:00am over a set of traffic lights because the police happened to be 'resting' at the side. both quite harsh. did it sound good in the tunnel then?! echo?

Yeh a seen the camera video and it was me, overtaking her as safely as you possibly could!. And no there was no echo..no sound!

Are you sure uve told us everything as that seems well harshh to me, were you speeding to overtake? as over 30?

Gaz, thats all that happened and i was not going over 30mph!..The magistrates said that it was a classic example of driving without due care and attention and that its the most serious case they have dealt with, with it being in the tunnel. Fair enough but a twelve month ban!..She was the one who was taking the michael!

My mate got caught drink driver 4 times over the limit and got a 12month ban but didnt have to do his test again and he was absolutely pissed out of his tree!

Gaz..an appeals gonna cost me a few hundred quid!..and also a jus cant be bothered..the way i see it is am getting me pug back soon and am jus gonna work on it for twelve months..respray it, new body mods etc and also a turbo kit to go with the efi throttle bodies..then come next year and am back on the road am gonna have a mint car. We'll see what they do then..if they can catch men!..hehe..Nah a jus cant be bothered..Jus gives me an excuse to work on me car in the garage.

Well..am gona be 23 when a get me license back..a already got a quote today from adrian flux for ?2500 full comp with all mods declared and a ban. So a think the insurance aint that bad considering thats how much a was paying with tesco with nothing declared!..Argghh!..am so gutted! a hate teachers!!!!

that is fucked man i think you should appleal this or try and get the ban lifted and pay a fine or sumthing as its harsh. it all depends on the judge you get but you should think about appealing cause they have banned you for overtaking. also did they do anything to the woman who was driving in front of you for wreckless driving or sumthing, i bet they didnt because that would contradict wot they have done to you. im sitting here shaking my head in disbeliefe it fucked. i feel bad for you.

I already sorted that problem out..ma mate who crashed his car a few days a go aint got a car..and i couldnt get to work or see my girlfriend without a car!..so i insured him on ma nova!..he can take me to work and stuff and hes got the use of ma car..were both happy and it means a aint stuck for a lift!

I don't agree with the severity of the punishment, but you have admitted on your post that you KNEW it was illegal to overtake in the tunnel but you have still done it! I would appeal but you really should know better! If you hadn't overtaken her you woul;dn't be in any trouble whatsoever!

The reason you have been hit so hard is because if you cause an accident in a tunnel it is nigh on impossible for the emergency services to get in at speed to deal with casualties and or fire. The tunnel gets blocked and the jam makes the emergency services jobs more dangerous! They've made an example of you.

I still think it's a very severe punishment. Good luck with your appeal

If you knew the overtaking manouvre was illegal why do it? best option would have been to put up with it for however long the tunnel was then smoke her when you get to the other side.

dito. i know that one too. i think if memory is correct, you can get a ?1000 fine if you break down in the mersey tunnel, as it cause huge delays and the emergency service bit as mentioned before.

i got done doing 103 on a dual carriageway, got 7 day ban and ?100 fine.
so i would suggest that you talk to a solicitor or wait for marty to give his 2p's worth. see what they say and make your mind up from there.
at end of day, if you admit (as you have) to the stupidity of what you do, letter from your boss saying you are needed all over the place due to your job, then they may give you 6 bonus points and a heavy fine.
