O.K i got turbo doctors No. I gave him a call and he reckons for about ?700 he will get 190bhp @ the fly wheel.
BUT he wont do the head gasket i still need to get that sorted. So now me thinks ?700 (Turbo) + ?150 (head) = ?850 = engine sorted.
or
?350(?) (set of cams and vernier pulleys) + ?100 (fitting) + ?70 (to do the head too). = ?520 = engine sorted. Then i still have ?330 left over to have some head work done. BHP???
But no dump valve. :-/

O.K CAM! And what i meant is i had a qutoe to get the head gasket replaced for ?110, but he said if i was having a cam fitted at the same time then he would just put ?70 on the price of the fitment. Clearer now.
Where can i get a cam and pulley from for ?225 fitted? If i can get that then i have seen a head for sale. Ported polished, gas flowed etc. i will have that too. I really have to have this osrted soon as i cant put any pressure on my engine at the mo else it just stops! X-(

Hmmm, I reckon for 190 @ fly you are gonna be looking at some serious boost...like more than 9 lbs!! Thats alot for the 1.6 8v bottom end to handle. And I'll bet the standard gearbox wont last particulary long either (I've done one and the next is not looking too rosey). When Courtenay do the conversion the very max is about that...and from what they have said that really is the highest for a standard bottom end/pistons.
How is the fuelling gonna be sorted to prevent detonation and other nasty piston overheating related stuff? Timing?
The *proper* turbo from TT is gonna set you back the best part of ?650 - it did me!! Then there's the manifold/downpipe to standard exhaust etc etc. There's a few questions in there that you want answered before any cash is exchanged mate.
As you know the compression has to be lowered either through machined pistons or the thicker head gasket. Courtenay use the standard gasket but with a sandwich plate fitted (not sure about thickness...phone them they'll tell you). I think that Regal can provide different thickness gaskets now so if you don't particularly want to go the Courtenay route you dont have to...
Just some ideas - hope it helps, Ben.

Even if u do get 190 at the fly, you`ll have some serious lag, and mental wheelspin when the boost does come on. As Ben said b4, you`ll have reliability problems on the std bottom end, and if you come up against a normally aspirated 140bhp 1600, he`ll probably do ya! I`ve only got 1391cc, but I can see off some supposedly quick turbos such as R5`s and Fiesta/Escorts. I`ve only gone upto 130ish bhp, and I`ve already got a drive shaft, clutch and other things not liking the extra welly. B4 u go spendin ya money do some serious research including going in different motors to see what u think, and reading back issues of mags etc etc....

MMMmmmm I had a think about htis last night.
It all sounds a bit dodgy to me. The bloke said he wouldnt change the head gasket, So he aint even gonna take the head off! He said he uses a low boost turbo (but then he said its the same as the RST type and i thought they were fairly high?!) I aslo asked him if he could do a twin, he said there would be no point! I think ia m just gonna slam a new head on thats gas flowed and ported etc and a cam. Shrick??
How can i get 160 brake without a turbo?
And by the way... I phoned turbo technics and they said they have NEVER done turbo converstions and especially wouldn't on the nova!

Fit a 2.0 16v 150bhp standard, plus a torque curve fatter than venesa Feltz. :)

TT only provided the kit commissioned by Courtenay Turbos. If you ask TT for the Garrett T2 variant(cant remember the P/N off the top of my head) fitted to the Nova as part of the conversion they will know exactly what you are talking about...Trust me, I had to buy one in December. And its cheaper to cut out Courtenay if you know what turbo you are looking for (they stick about 200 quid on for the privilege).
If you are talking about the Escort RST then it uses a Garret T3 turbo, I know of one person who has fitted this to his nova GTE but has problems with the wastegate actuator sitting dangerously low to the ground...Too laggy as well. The boost on the ERST was set at between about 5 to 9 lbs from the factory, the max on the standard T3 is appprox 12 - 14 lbs (for reliability).
BTW what did the 'turbo doctor' say he was gonna do with the oil filter?? I can guarantee it wont fit when there's a turbo manifold bolted on.
Questions questions questions.
160BHP from the normally aspirated engine is going to be tough to crack...probably best to start talking with the pros like Bill Blydenstein, I am sure someone here has his number...

I didnt ask about the oil filter. I didnt even think about that. I think that i am just going to put a group a head on and a shrick cam for now. These mods will still be efective along with a turbo if i decide to get one at a later date. I havent even had my car resprayed since putting the new doors and mkII wings on... So you can imagine what kind of state it looks at the mo! If i can get 140 brake from this lump then i will be well chuffed Nic Barnes has 140 brake @ the R.R session with a group a head and shrick cam. That with a boostvalve and stainless system should give about 145? Cant really afford much else then for a while.

im not sure, but if u turbo a car thats got a cam designed for a a non turbo car in it,it will be a bit shitter, than if it had a standard cam in it. if u want a performance cam in it u would have to have one ground speacialy for it,unless someone already makes a cam for a turboed nova, courtney maybee, i dont know??

Keep it normaly aspirated if you want the power with some sort of reliability. But the turbo will give big!! power. If power is the main thing you cant go wrong with cubic inches, put a bigger engine in it.:>
