there are three sizes of nova rad
d/td being the biggest
then the gte/gsi and mk1 1.4
and the smaller 1.0 and 1.2 rad

I maybe wrong but I think the connections on the diesel rad are on the opposide sides...

so the GSI/GTE radiator fits 1 1.2 does it? Since putting in a 1300 in my 1200 i have noticed the temp has gone up and having higher compression doesn't help.

Doesn't go over 1/4 on gauge but still could be cooler as i havn't really tried sitting in traffic.

What sorta price is a new rad? I guess u can get them from Parto etc or is it a Vaux job?

your temp should go up to half lol

get a new thermostat

GSI one is bigger, but the 1200 one will fit in a GSI yes its smaller but i dont care, at least the 1200 spare one i have hasnt got a huge hole in it, pmsl.....

just confirming, its only 2 clips and as the hole they go in is the same on all novas they shud all fit. the difference in size i cant imagine being an issue???

Will, if you want to be pedantic, you asked if they were the same, not would they fit!

No they are not the same and YES they will fit, except the Diesel Rad!

How did you manage to get a hole in it?

the gsi rad is more than enough even for a 20xe conversion.

using the TD rad is possible but not worth the hassle of plumbing the long pipes.

early 1200/1300/ gte/gsi rads are the same (large)

later 1200/1300/1400 rads are the same (smaller on stilts)

take the gsi one out and put it next to the 1.2 one and see if there is any difference :P

will the 1.2 rad be ok with a 20xe??

mine was ok with a 1.2i stilted rad... but when standing for ages in traffic with the heaters off then it would overheat eventually.. i'll be fitting a valeo rad when it goes back together

1.0 and 1.2 are different. some 1.2 ohv astra mk1 rads will fit the nova 1.0 but thats it. i've put a 1.2 rad from an '88 nova in a '87 1.0 but it took some fiddling

get a new thermostat

I used the same 1200 head on my 1300 so the thermostat hasn't changed. So temp increase must be true.

oh dear no-ones mentioned the 1.2 fan wont fit in to the lower cross member due to larger radiator

this has been done now with pro bodging skills of me and matt

1.2 rad and 1.6 fan are being used, 1.2 fan wud fit its jus the plug was different for the wiring so we made the 1600 fan fit, prob solved, no leak, works fine :D

what do you mean neway?

1.2 fan is smaller than 1.6

1.2 rad is smaller than 1.6 by 4 inches in length........ how the hell wudnt the 1.2 fit cause of larger rad the 1200 fan is smaller its just the wiring plugs are different so rather than pissing abt we made 1600 fan fit

yer i meant the 1.2 fan is smaller than the 1.6 fan so wont fit properly onto the 1.6 rad will only bolt in at the top.

only saying

i actually found when i had my radiator escapades this winter, that i bought a 1.6 gsi rad, thinkin yeah itll go straight in, of course it did and everything was fine, hoses wires etc, even filled damn thing with antifreeze to find the actual bracket for the fan at the bottom was diffrent on the rad. for some reason the fan bracket in the middle of the rad at the bottom seemed difrent on the 1.4sr rad.

i managed to fit a 1.2 and also 1.6 fan to this 1.6 rad i had bought, but had this really random fan and mounting on the 1.4

moral of the story, buy the parts for what the car was originally. (i know in some cases that isnt strictly true  )
