Hi all..

I am just in the process of buying some audio equipment for my new G reg nova 1.2 sting..
At the moment everything is stock, and I have just bought an Alpine 9807rb head unit ready for some speakers.
However. I do not want a bass speaker, and my budget is now down to ?80 in order to buy the most cost effective (best sounding) speakers I can get for the money.
What do you guys suggest I do.
The only plan I could come up with was to buy a pair of infinity 9603i 6x9s and fit them in my parcel shelf, to be used as front speakers (although they will be at my rear), I couldnt see how it will sound too badly as the car only being small and the distance from me (the driver) is not too far...
Do you guys have any other suggestions, I dont have thee money to go buying expenive door pods and hacking away at my doors.. So what is my best option?
Also are there a better set of 6x9s? I am after a good tight bass sound with as much clarity in other ranges as possible.

Cheers
Alex

good choice on the headunit front. well done. 6x9's are the cheapest way of getting good sound into youre car. you have to buy some 6x9's. the infinitys you mentioned are crackers as they are only ?50. so yes ide buy them. then with the ?30 go and buy a pair of jbl 326's. see if you can price match it down as the retail on these jbl's are ?40. so you'll be a tenner short. these little beaut's fit perfectly into the front dash on any nova i think. small but do sound well.

i have a set of door pods for sale that will take 6 1/2" components. Then go to
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+60_61_109+products_id+2046

The speakers are ?69.99 and i'll sell the pods for ?20. They are carpeted in a dark grey.

Let me know

in response to peester..

but wont the two front cheapy speakers be used as fronts ? and the good 6x9s on my parcel shelf will be used for rear noises ie ambience???
Or is there a way of using both front and rear as front.. if you know what i mean?

Cheers a lot

no, i don't know of a way of running all four as front speakers. put the two little jbl's in the front running off the front speaker wiring. then off rear speaker wiring put the 6x9's in. its the only way really, of having clear sound and some bass for youre ?80. it'll sound alright mate. im just not sure if the front 8cm jbl's will find inot a mark 1 nova dash. i have a set of the jbl's in the front of my mk2 nova dash for ?30 (i price matched) they sound sweet. do absolutely no bass though. but you've got ur 6x9's in back for that.

I'd do as Peester says - It's your best bet for budget quality sounds (The Infinty gear really is top notch) and the JBL will be fine in the dash running off the front speaker outputs of the Alpine, just the same as the 6x9's will be fine running off the rear outputs.

how the bloody hell do i manage to get insidee the dash to fit those speakers ?!
Also.. how do i take out my original Type 272 radio from my mk1 dash?
I just dont seem to be able to pull it out with my handss, probably because there isnt enough finger room..
how do i do it?

I used to hammer to get my old one out, lol. If you dont need it then destroy it :D To fit the speakers i think you have to lift ur dash off if you do its in the haynes.

dp, i don't which of ur avatars are worst; the kid in a cot or the dogeon.
:D
to take old unit out shud just need removal keys; see halfords for that. Again, not familiar with mk1 dash.
If it is the original radio ur removing and the wiring hasn't been touched go halford again for a wiring converter; it'll cost ?12 be tidier and much easier than crimping bullets galore. part number i think is PC2-12-4. now the alpinw ill plug in. i think the model you've purchased there isn't a need to wire the yellow (+12v) wire direct to the battery, nor the black (NEG) to an earth on the car. all plug in and go.

if it is a g reg then you wont need an adaptor from halfords. They all had ISO plugs fitted to the loom so the headunit wil plug straight in. The get to the speakers under the dash is easiest taking the dash out BUT you can get to the n/s one by taking out the glove box and the o/s one by taking out your dials. It is VERY fiddly but it can be done. You are best to wire the speaker up first and then screw it into place. Make sure the wire is long enough though.

last time i changed the front speakers in a mk1 i did it this way.
as purplenova said. take the glove box out for the passengers side and the drivers side i went through the fuse box. it just pushes up and out of the way. just make sure you have a long enough screwdriver.

Budget Speakers - MegaVox MGX-442SR 4" diameter, 200W. ?17.99 and experience has shown me that they're better than Sony Xplod 6x9 200W speakers.

I got mine from a car place in Cornwall, cant remember the name of it though. I'm pretty sure A1 Motorstores (A1 Motorsport, whatever theyre called these days!) sell them, remember seeing some MegaVox speakers in my local 1 anyhow.
