Alright everyone.

Im going to be buying myself a new motor in the next week or so. I thougt about a golf GTI or possibly a corrado, but Ive come back to vauxhall and think Im gonna get a Calibra. Im only 19 so I will be on my mums insurance, and based on the quotes Ive got so far, I could get either a 2.0i or even a 2.0 16v.

whos driven a calibra? what are they like, handling/performance(figures)/costs etc/any recomendations

really appreciate any opinions you lot have

Only Calibra worth owning is a Turbo and i would be hard pushed to buy one of those, in two words Calibras are...

Big
Slow

The Handling is terrible unless you spend huge money to sort it and it still will be like a boat, if your going to get one get the 5 door version- a cavalier, they are far more pratical, cheaper etc etc.

My mates got a 2.0 8v. It goes alright (60 in just under 10secs) And its good handling on fast bends, but chuck it into a small roundabout and they struggle!!! Obviously because of the size and weight. But its a nice car. He picked his up for ?3000. Its a N-Reg, with 17's, Suspension kit and exhaust sytem. Also has the Cream leather interior which is very nice 8)

Calibra 2.0 16v

Very clean and tidy car 92k miles, cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, alloys, electric pack, gunmetal grey, needs headlight hence ?450

Cheap as chips, selection of one of thousands

The size of the calibra doesnt particularly bother me as being a 6 foot 4 bloke in a nova can get cramped. id love the turbo, but i dont think its feasible being only 19. does anyone have exact performance figures for the 16v?

Im looking to spend only ?1000-?2000, and leather is definitely preferable

How well do calibras take high milage? because there are some alright looking examples with 100,000+ on the clock.

Forget all that and get yourself a Honda Prelude, 2.2 V-Tec.

Easily get one for what you have, being a honda it's very reliable and goes like shit off a shovel.

Im not nessacarily saying get a Nova but the height argument dosent wear with me

A honda is a good choice, if thinking of a Vaux though go for a 2.5 V6 SRi Vectra for that price range.

I did look into the astra gsi, but they seem to be pretty over priced. Ive recently sold my nova which was shit as she was a beauty, and I want to move onto something other than nova which is going to be fairly quick/cool.

too much choice
