Is this a Standard 1.3SR manifold, or is it a Twin Choke Upgrade manifold?

Its on ebay and say's its for when you add a webber carb, but it just looks standard?

Its a standard manifold for a 1300 SR with a Pierburg 2e (or whatever its called) twin choke carb. You'll need an adapter plate to bolt to the manifold, before you can bolt the carb on.. :)

it's had the standard studs removed so i expect it had a weber fitted at sometime

If that's a standard 1.3SR manifold, then what shape are the ports on the head (for a 1.3)? I've just been offered a "1.2" Head that has square Ports, not round ones and as the 1.3 manifold's supposed to match... I'm sure I read somewhere that it's 1.4SRi heads that have Square Ports?

I'm confused! :?

1.4sr/spi - square
mpi - round
1.2/1.3 - arched

I've now got an Astra 1.3 Engine and gearbox thats replacing the 1.4SR - if possible I want to keep the 1.4 Bottom end and just use the Astra head and gearbox. Either way I don't need the 1.2 head. (wold be nice though!)

whats wrong with the 1.4 head and gearbox?

fit the 1.3 head on the 1.4 and you may lower the compresson

(According to the guy thats supposed to be fixing the car) Theres a crack either in the head or the block. Swapping the heads first so we can find out if it's there coz I don't think my budget will stretch to swapping the engines ouright. Of course if it still fails after swapping the heads I guess I'll have to.

According to MC's article and pretty much everyone else it seems the 1.3 SR head is better than the 1.4SR - so I'm hoping I can do that and not have to do a full engine swap.

1.4 gearbox is in good (in fact excellent) condition but isn't quick enough - fitting the 1.3 will give it quicker acceleration. :P

I'll definitely be avoiding the 1.2SPI head, thanks for identifying it! :)

Coz It needs the inner wings welding, new front wing, rear arches need de-rusting and then it'll want a respray - can't do that lot myself. (well maybe the new wing I could if I bought a secondhand 1 in red!)

Then it would need to go to the garage for work for the MOT...

Made sense to take it straight there (at the time!)

Get the head crack tested before you fit it to make sure its ok :)

The new (astra) engine's in perfect condition - its the old (nova)1 thats the problem.

If I could do crack testing I would have done it already to find out if there actually is a problem, as I reckon theres nothing wrong with the head or block.

just take it to an engine builder and get them to pressure check it

hey did someone say on page 1 that a 1.3 head on a 1.4 lowers the C/R, well mate your wrong, i personally think thats the best mod i ever done to my 1.4. got 101bhp out of it in june and on the way to PVS i hit 125mph.

try it u wont regret it!

well peeps fit the 1.2 head to raise the compression on 1.3/4... so i expect fitting the 1.3 head will lower it... but it will improve flow

101bhp with a hea swap???

low compression... so slow
