14 SR gear box!!!

My 1.4 Sr has a problem with the gearbox or cluch, when i brought the car the bloke said that it was just the gear box fluid but ive been told it is the gear selector!!!! however, when the car is cold it goes into gear fine but 3 and 5th are far to close together but when the car is hot it is a mission to get it in gear, has anybody got any ideas wot it cud be??? :?:

Right, start with the simple things first.

1, adjust the clutch pedal to it's correct height, this is just above the brake pedal

2, re-align the gear shift mechanism.

Both of these are quite straight forward and are in the Haynes manual

You say the gear shift mechanism, is that the same as the gear selector??? because my uncle said that it may be the gear selector!!!!
