My Standard Air Filter box has a pipe coming off it where the air is sucked in... it is a cone shape which means that the nozzle at the end is very small (only big enough to fit a finger in) and then it gets wider as it goes up towards the filter... can I saw it off further up so the nozzle is bigger? will that give more air?

I have a 1.2 mk2 nova with an air filter box and i got a large drill and drilles holes all arround the outside of the box to get more air in. Now it makes a growl when i floor it, but there isnt much difference in power.to get better power you need a decent exaust and a better means of getting more fuel into the system(i.e larger fuel injector or some sort of boots valve)which i am going to do because at the moment the fuel mixture will be slightly lean
