I've got a wurring noise at the cambelt, thought it may be a tight cambelt, loosened it, still there, replaced water pump (as this is the tensionier for these engines) and the noise is still there (alternator belt also off, so its not the alternator making the noise either). I noticed the camshaft sprocket 'rocks'. I presume the camshaft or the machined out bearing holes in the camshaft housing may be worn (its done 133K!). It looks like the camshaft housing has no bearings to replace (unlike the crank) so will need another camshaft housing with camshaft and rockers/lifters.
I don't now if you can repair the camshaft bearing holes in the camshaft housing? Or do you have to renew the item and fit a new camshaft too?
The car is a 1990 Nova GTE 1.6i (E16SE engine).
