My brother has had 2 of them, I've driven his a fair bit.
His is one of the very very late ones (S reg) and therefore only the 130 BHP Ecotec version - It's nice to drive, suspension is sutably sporty as it should be without rattling all your fillings out, as for the speed of it well it's not that quick at all tbh, yeah it's quicker than my Nova GSi but it'd struggle against a XE Nova.
Also the price of MK3 GSi's still seems quite high for what they are, You'd be better off getting a sorted Cav GSi for the money you'd spend getting a decent Astra GSi imo.

yeah as jules sez really; all tidy, low mileage astra gsi's are late ecotec models and are dear. the xe'ed gsi's are very few in good nick. ide say if you find a good xe astra gsi get it. otherwise plan that conversion.

there are various types a 2.0 16 valve 150 bhp found on j,k,l 0-60 7.5 sec's.and even rare m reg's. Then they do the 1.8 16 valve and 2.0 16 valve both with 136 bhp 0-60 8.5 sec on paper rust is common on early models but i am also planning on getting one like you i thought about a valver nova but i want class, style and power and comfort and that aint a nova i'd go for the astra.I also put this across the forum and got no positive feedback all saying this is a nova site so get a nova depends what you want it for

The nova : fun, small hatch, bad boy appeal, boy racer car valver could embarass alot of other expensive cars, rattles and rust.

The astra : got the power, style, comfort not as fun to drive, but still powerful, more space for the bird i.e backseat and going out with lads 5's up aint too cramp. better option i think. :D

i love the nova but there comes a time in life where people have to move on. So that is why i've chosen the astra gsi i think many of you on here confuse it with the gte. Novas are fun but too many of you build them up to make them look like plastic pigs . In my opinion novas should not have all these big jap styling kits they look stupid but the only one i can say i like is DAN PAYNES who has created his new fresh faced nova with all most the whole car being a one off. BUT i do appreciate the graft that goes into these big bodykit novas as they are trying to show the saxo's and etc that nova's still rule even today BUT In my opinion a Nova should be subtle, smooth, and stripped out, caged up monster with power. I would like to return to the scene when i finish uni and build an exact replica of my jamaica yellow nova before i sold it to a mate who wrote it off But this time with 2 buckets rollcage and possibly a valver on carbs or turbo but who knows. TAKE A LOOK IN 1.3 SR SECTION AT MY CAR.KENS SR

i've driven a few.. they aren't all they are made out to be

a cav turbo is a much more rewarding drive and cheaper too!

I like Astra GSi's but have to agree with Ste (happening far to often lately!) They are overpriced.

My mate paid ?900 for a J reg one and sold it the same day for ?2200. There are cheaps ones out there but you do get what you pay for.

Now i would only own a lte one R/S reg and would have to put up with the slight powerloss.

Go for the astra mate, looks nice and is pretty quick. Novas are cool but after driving around newer cars for a month and then getting back in my nova

I sold it

in standard form the astra gsi aint all it promises, it cant go round corners, its unresponsive off the line an you have to spend sum serious wedge on them to make them perform

However they do look nice on the outside and the interior looks quite smart an styleing wise a stienmetz front splitter finishes the look of nicely.

I sold my nova gsi an brought a calibra 16v an while its nice to have power an comfort its not as good round town as my gsi on fuel or racin saxos :(

In short id go for a valver nova cause thats what i wish id done :x

Unless ur thinkin of dropin a calibra turbo lump in the astra cause then they fcukin fly :!:
