Straight Through

Hi, does any one know the rules on a complete straight through, am i allowed to have one fitted to my early 91 GSi or do i have to have silencer boxes. If so how many. I am currently running a stainless magnex system but it has three silencers and i want to get rid of them.

Don't think there's any laws against running a straight through exhaust, but if you're looking at rallying it you'll have to maintain the original number of boxes (3).

you could change your downpipe back to an original 1.4sr they only have 1 silencer as oposed to the gte which has about 3... this is a good cheap way for a decat mod too on ur late gsi or sri

i'd expect someone like magnex or mongoose to do a grp A system
if not just ask powerflow to build a strait throgh 3'' pipe wiv no boxes at all LOL........

ive got a straight through stainless never been pulled once passed mot as well no probs and am in the process of fittin another exhaust out the otherside of the car as soon as the fule pump ect is moved

Must just be the police round here but if your car aint standard then your classed automatically as an arse hole by them, so there for you must have nicked the car your driving.

when i first got mine it had a full magnex on it and that had 3 one at the front then that cherry bomb type pipe i dont know if u count that as a back box then the one at the back of the car
but mine didnt have a cat on it

1.0/1.2/sr non cat have 2 boxes

cat cars have cat and 2 boxes

Ahhhh, I see, thanks for clearing that up. Only reason I thought he might have mistake the cat for a backbox is because I was under a Gsi a few weeks ago and noticed it had 2 backboxes and a cat, so presumed all Gsi's had cats.

my gsi had 3 boxes, two in the centre pipe and the backbox. the centre pipe box was massive too and scraped on speed bumps.

the sportex replacement has one tiny box in the centre and the normal sized backbox

Ive got a straight through and the oldbill never bother me,
Ive only got a back box and its a sportex system with center silencer removed.

I was running a Ashley system with a very small centre section, made it very raspy and "gurgley"

Not been bothered by the police at all, but then ive only seen 2 coppers on the road in Tamworth and i moved hear about a year ago :o
