Right then - while the Nova's in the garage pending an almost total rebuild can someone help me with the following stuff?

1.) Cylinder head. Want to fit the 1.2 head, but can someone tell me if i can just use the 1.4SR inlet and exhaust manifiolds and any other bits that stick on the head? If I do use the 1.2head will I need a different head gasket?

2.) If I go for the above head, what Camshaft's best? can I stick the 1.4SRi, GTE or GSi cam in there?

3.) How much could I skim off the 1.4 Head if I can't find a 1.2 head to give the same effect

4.) Are the valves i nthe 1.2 head the same size as the 1.4?

5.) I've been hearing a lot about the carbs icing up - not nice. My old Mazda had a valve in the tube going into the airbox that let hot air from the exhaust manifold heat shield into the carb when i twas cold. Any ideas if I clould do something similar on the Nova?

6.) My Nova's J reg, so when I'm looking for aftermarket stuff do I go for the 91 onwards parts or the pre 91 stuff? (as the car's a 1991 model!)

Sorry for all the questions! My old mazda was a lot simpler coz no one does aftermarket stuff or tune-ups on them (they don't need it!)!

1) cant use 1.4 stuff it has to be 1.3 inlet and exhaust manifolds.

2) 1.4 carb'd or 1.6 cam (better stilla 285 piper that many people are selling at the mo)

4) valves are the same size in the 1.2/1.3 and 1.4 its only the 1.6 that ahs bigger valves

Tnanks guys!

Any advantages in running a GTE cam instead of the 1.4 cam in the 1.2 head?

Piper Road/Rally cam would be lovely but can't afford it! costs more than the car did!

1.3 Inlet - can that come off a 1.3 SR? do they have different carbs to the 1.4SR?

You can buy my Piper 285 Road/Rally Cam for ?100 if you want? I've just ordered a new Cam. The one I currently have has probably done about 5000miles, if that.

PM me if your intrested.

Thanks for the offer but I cant afford it for a while! Going to put the GTE cam in - got 1 for free from my next door neighbour's car parts stockpile!

Currently the car's going to cost at least ?500 to get it in a usable condition, let alone performing above avaerage!

If anyone knows the previous owner of my car please kick them - they've destroyed it!

coz it was cheap and if worst comes to worst it's got alloys and a GSi spolier which are easily worth the ?250 I paid for it!

I don't expect an amazing car for that much!

Ah yes but yours didnt have Alloys with almost brand new Pirelli tyres! :D

Speaking of which - whats the proper tyre profile supposed to be for 14" alloys? 65 seems to rub the arches a bit.

Also, anybody know where I can get some SR decals for the doors? mines going to be having a new door skin so It'll be losing one.
