View Full Version : Imploded engine?
Right just bought a standard GSi thats been killed...
Apprently the guy put to much oil in and since the initial 10 miles it ran for its never worked since, what damage could be caused and is there an easy way of testing if its knackered.
When trying to turn it over just make a sound like the starter is sticking but its not.

apart from stripping it down i'd start by checking the flywheel and crank
if flywheel isnt turning when starter is applied its a starter issue
if it is but the crank pulley aint turning then my guess is the crank has snapped - engines gubbed
if its all turning then check under the rocker cover to ensure the cam is turning with the cam pulley
make sure its all timed up properly and its getting spark and fuel
after that ive no idea

I know, I know, it'll be a stupid question, but I have to ask, has the excess oil been removed?
No we only got it back this evening and i had to got to work.
The guy we bought it off knew nothing about cars and wasnt intrested as he had a nice bimmer on 19"s to play with.
Have been told to drop the oil out, remove the plugs and turn it over for a while to release the pistons :?

don't do it too long though or it will never see ignited fuel again

What :?:
Drop the oil, remove the plugs, turn it over a couple of times (if you have a compresion tester, check the compresion) put some new plugs in and give it a go..
worst it could of done would be to blow the pistons rings, but usualy the rocker cover gasket gets done 1st off!!
Drained the oil and removed plugs, put a breaker bar on the the pulley and it wont budge...
Any GEN?
Scuse me! I drained the oil; and took the plugs off!!! :D
Got the breaker bar on the bottom pully, but it looks to be siezed right up!
Nut is turning, but I dont want to snap the thread!
Looks almost def to be a piston then!

nope... fill oil to correct level... attempt to to start
if it wont turn at all with a breaker bar im pretty sure trying to tow start wont be helping anything :S

 depends what seized
hard to get a decent load on the bottom pulley with a long bar
Cant hurt, if it dosent go the engine is knackered, if it does go saves us replacing it.
Im driving the Golf :!:
No.
I will tow you in the 3.0 24v Volvo.
I can see it now..... we begin the tow, 10, 15....20...
Clutch in, 2nd gear selected
clutch released.
Wheels lock.
Volvo unaffected.
Front of Nova is released from the rest of car.
