I want to swap my 1.4 sr gearbox for a 1.3 box because of the ratios, but need to know a few things first like= Will it fit straight on?
Wot clutch do i use? (1.3 or 1.4)
Will the box handle it?

Any replies are appreciated. Thanx

so explain to us why a 1.3 gearbox is going to make a difference?

i thought the 1.3 an 1.4 were both f10s. If you want a closer ratio box then you need to get the f10cw instead of the f10wr

An early box from 1.3 will have longer ratios than that of a 1.4 close ratio jobbie. My old 1.3 SR was a pleasure to rack into 3rd while rounding a bend at 70mph. My mates J plate 1.4 Sr wont do that as nice!!!!!!!!
THATS WHY!!

to be honest the better box is the close ratio, unless you wanrt it for motorway driving!!

If your that bothered build a hybrid, best bet using 1-4 out the CR but the final drive out the wr

It IS down to personal preference. The thing with CR boxes is that you cant hold onto the gears for as long, if you want to scream the living daylights out of a 1.3 then the CR box doesent last long enough in the gears. My car has the GSi 1.6box and I find it too short. I tend to spend more time selecting the next gear than actually accelerating in gear.. A wider box would pull for longer and so long as you have enough torque, the slight loss in acceleration would be made up by extra mph at the end of the gear. Maybe not for the 1/4 mile but for fast A & B roads the WR could be better.

i have the f10wr 4-speed in my 1.2i, but i want to replace it with the f10cr 5-speed, will this improve things at all?

as i want it cuz i will be doing motorway driving (why i want the 5th) but i want it closer for the lights!

is it worth it?

cheerz!

anyone got on for sale by chance?

5th is the same as the 4th in the f10wr

so no gain in mpg...

but extra gear will help acc

i was told a 1.3 gearbox has shorter ratios, therefore better acc. at traffic lights. Basically i want fast acceleration (top speed does not bother me).
The engine has been treated to a k+n filter,a full janspeed exhaust+manifold.im running 15's aswell, and considering to take the back seats out!!!! wot would be the best way of doing this?

With an F13 on my 1.3SR I could drop to 3rd on the motorway at 70mph and take it up to 80 (engine was probably hoping I didn't) It was great fun overtaking, other drivers must have just heard this feckkin loud Ashley system ring out at 7000 rpm and shit themselves. The pictures on their faces is worth it :)

The F10 boxes' can handle loads more power than engines can provide, and have been used on 1.6i motors with no problem (apart from spinning wheels that is)

To answer the original question:

Both 1.3SR and 1.4SR use the F10 box. The thing that ,makes the 1.3SR quicker in accelerating is it's Final Drive ratio. the 1.4SR has a 3.94 ratio, whereas the 1.3 has a 4.18 (to make up for the lower powered engine).

All you need to do is swap the 4.18Final drive from the 1,3SR box into your 1.4SR box and there you have it, a 1.4SR thats quicker than the 1,3 for a change!

I have the 1.4SR, and I want to put the gearbox from my old Mazda 121 (Kia Pride Gearbox) into it because it's a faster car (1324cc, 65BHP 0-60 of 10 seconds and top speed of about 109). So far I havent tried, but if possible would make a pretty quick car!

my 1.4 is allways faster than 1.3's

i read somwhere on here that the f10cr 5-speed from a 1.3/1.4 SR was the same as the f13cr from a GTE/GSi, but the GTE/GSi box had a bigger bellhousing???

so whats the score?

nova-rally = would it b easier then to just swap the 1.4 box for the 1.3? changing the final drive will be hassle!!! if its the same box will it handle the power (full janspeed+manifold,k&n,cam)?
