i think they did do a 1.0 mk2. they definitely did do a 1.0 mk1 (it was ohv)
it doesn't really look like a sr cos sr's had vinal cladding on the sides of the car, red stripped deeper bumpers, rear boot spoiler and it sat a smidge lower etc...and im not sure where your going with this. must be because its late.

the ohc engines all look the same with the exception of the inlet manifold and such on the higher models

the 1.0 is ohv and looks totally different

oh so the engine looks completely different?
if so does a 1.2 look like an sr engine?

just drive without insurance, same result really

1.2 / 1.3 / 1.4 OHC all "look" the same, there are differences that anyone who knows what they are looking at (e.g insurance assesors in event of a claim) will be able to tell.

BTW the big give away is the engine number on the bottem end, if your insured as a 1200 with as 1400 engine and u crash they look at the number stamped on the engine starting 14NV or wotever and then your buggered, how old are you?

Why not just get a 1.2 and drive it there not all that bad we have all been there so why should you get to jump ahead, its illegally its cheating and it costs every1 else more money in the long run.

I had a 1200 nova for 2 years before i engines swapped to 1400 and then it was cheap enough cause i was 19 and had a few years no claims, now i drive a GSI but theres no way i cud have done so at 17/18 its all abt taking things in stages.

If your going to be doing a conversion and not telling your insurance i really dont have any time for you, as most ppl on this site will tell you the same thing TBH.

One last note. If you really are gonig to do sumthing like this (more fool you) dont advertise it and tell every1word gets around thats the last thing you want.

Ill get my coat now

1.3 SR / 1300 nova sport engine is group 5 insruance which will not be to bad

why is insurance so expensive? how longhave you been driving, where do u live? (postcode) any points of accidents etc etc?

will

p.s. read our insruance guide on the home page in the "other" guides section, top left.

get a 1.2 engine and have it rebuilt to 1.4 spec add a weber 32/34 (say it was fitted by a garage when the old carb died if anyone asks or say it was on it when u got it... ) use the standard airbox etc 1.3/4 down pipe etc and 1.3/4 standard exhaust

ydg27

i am 19
and i live in upper tean staffs
ST10 4JB
on a 1.4 SR its ?1480 fully comp, and with me being @ college i cant afford and a 1.2 is ?1390 fully comp - hardly worth it.

Will
18-11-03, 11:44 AM
pmsl at fully comp

your excess will be ?400 reverse into a lampost and its a write off, car valued at ?400 minus your excess you get ?0

try TPFT and try companys like flux, hic and liverpool vic

they will be interested as your over 19 which is a big bonus these days.

will

p.s. rebuilding a 1200 bottem end to 1400 spec, hmmmmmmmm :?

so you wouldn't go fully comp @ 19 on a car worth ?1k

i ideally want a 1.4SR or SRi as they are a compromise between the GSi and a poxy 1.2,

has anyone got adrian flux phone number please
or if they are insured with anyone @19 @a competitive price please post.
and who are HIC?

dave.gsi
18-11-03, 12:16 PM
gte a 1.3sr. cheap to insure yet still quite pokey. and go third party fire and theft or third party only, it makes it miles cheaper and gives you more incentive not to crash lol (cos you'll get nothing)

Will

   stop dreaming, it wont be worth a grand more like ?600

the numbers are all in the guide on novaload as i explained above go look at the guide!!

ok will do

Aragorn
18-11-03, 02:00 PM
take am look at parkers guide for instance

the insurance company wont give a crap about how clean it is or how much work uve done to it etc

they will give u market value and nothing more

LV wanted an extra ?90 to make my policy fully comp but there was a 450 quid excess which is more than they see the car as being worth

the problem is u have no NCB but no accidents

this points the insurnace companies to fronting (ie youve been driving 2 years so why no ncb) which they hate and thats why your getting silly quotes

btw - im driving a 1.0 saloon with a 1.4sri engine

1.0 saloon would have cost me ?820 with LV at 19 and 1 year ncb
1.4 engine in 1.0 saloon with all mods declared is ?830 ;)

last year it was similar - 18, 0 ncb and 1.0 saloon ?1100 same car with 1.4sri engine ?1110

they said summat about they dont make a 1.4 2 door saloon so theyve put it down as a 1.0 saloon with a modified engine - mike oxford is the same - he was told they dont make a 1.6 SR so it went down as a 1400sr with modified engine

might be worth giving em a call :)

they don't make a 2.0 16v expression either

Alex

Mine is listed as a 1.2 sx with engine mods (has a gte engine in)

Will
18-11-03, 04:31 PM
in general terms they dont do those types of policys anymore, the quote is based on the insurance group of your new engine

e.g. 1.0 with 2.0 16v wud be a group 14/15 insurance bracket

will

Will
18-11-03, 04:32 PM
just like to add if u already have a policy of that type with LV and u renew and dont break off and go with sum1 else u will continue to get your cheapo insurance on that car u lucky buggers.

new customers are told to fook off if your:

e.g. 19 with a valver in a 1.2 wanting insurance

will

Ste_Nova

i have 2 policys with them :P

Aragorn
18-11-03, 06:53 PM
err the way i see it is they will still do it as long as the car doesnt exist AND the underwriters are happy

they wont insure valvers for anyone under 21 anymore

but safer customers (ie 19+ with ncb etc) phoning up with non standard cars do still get the above treatment

my engine mods were applied well after they started cracking down and they didnt have a problem

best way to tell is to phone em - also depends who u spoke to, dont tell em any specs - ie dont say its an SR engine just a 1400 u got/can get from scrapyard/friend/mechanic etc

mines ?1052 on a 1.2sx all mods declared (no engine mods) 17 0 ncb, with LV.bit steep but i cudnt find ne1 cheaper!
i heard LV only charge like 20 quid for an engine swop?
