well i've just about finished my engine and its nearly ready to be started.
whats the best way to bed it in?
- do i treat it with a light right foot and barely touch the throttle for a good 500 miles (its basically a new engine with new everything- rings, bearings etc)
- do i drive like i would normally drive ( occasionally flat out)(yeah right)
- or..... like someones told me.... that i should thrash it ?
any advive helpful although if my engine dies in the first 1000 miles i might have to kill myself.

bit of all three really

when you start it, provided it will idle, turn on you head lights/hi beam, and heater fans on full. this will give the alternator some laod, and consiquently the engine. That will help a bit.

drive pretty much normally but when accelerating just be gentle (but not a total pussy)

loading the engine up is also a good idea (after say 100 miles), to do this you get on a motorway and get into 5th asap (55) and gently floor it. this will give the engine chance to experience full load over various throttle positions

and every now and then thrash it (sensibly) as this will push highish oil pressure everywhere to give the whole lot a good lube up
