Which are better overall ? i.e. when it comes to 'minor' tuning (lol) and stuff

- Before you say it... im just starting with a 1.2 so aint (obviously) looking for performance! lmao

Out of the two, what do you reckon?

1.2i or 1.2 ?

Thanks

1.2i = 45BHP (same power as a 1.0)

1.2 (carb) = 55BHP

with the 1.2 carb i would just fit an SR 4-2-1 manifold, 1.4SR cam, and the 1.3/1.4SR carb, not really worth spending alot of money on a 1.2, just wait till u can afford a bigger engine, i.e 1.6 gte/gsi 8)

Get a carbed model... 1.2 not 1.2i

Yeah cheers guys....

As you have probably guessd i aint going mad on one (yet!).... just want to buy a nice little runner that can get a little 'tweeking', and aint going to cost much to run.

Any other ideas on the modifying front for a 1.2 ? (Engine-wise)
- or like you said... it wouldn't be worth it ?

Thanks

if you can, try and get a mk2 shell with a 1.2 carb engine in. Mission I know, but IMO mk2 look so much better.

although it could be said the 1.2i could be more reliable with it being fuel injected?

if your planning on fitting exhaust manifolds and such u can do the same to the 1.2i and will achieve similar gains - main disadvantage is the head

im sure the 1.2i has the same or maybe even more torque than the 1.2carb even tho its not as powerful

if u get a j plate then u can happily decat it and fit a decent exhaust system (even one from a gte will do) along with an sri manifold and downpipe and you'll find it just as nice to drive as a 1.2carb with similar mods

their both crap engines but dont go for the 1.2i at least you can upgrade the carb on the carbed model. Single point injection is poo, i had one until it bent some valves.

youre right mate. spi more torquey than 1.2 carb. its only top end brake horse power at the end of the day.
i think the decider is that the 1.2i is a mk2: so much much easier to find a lower mileage, cleaner, example. Also mk2 1.2 i's have better looks; better dash. subtle improvements over the years. for the minimal top end a carb will get ya; i say 1.2i. sxi. like i used to have.

Mk2 1.2 carb, thank you :D lol

mines a munter isnt it alex :)

get the carbed model (if you want a mk2 then try to get a 1.2 Flair, they are carbed)

then await a 1.2 guide that is worth reading, when i can be bothered to write it lol

Ive got a Mk2 1992 1.2 Flair and its a carb only had 3 owners and has 66k on the clock :D . I didnt know there was any difference in the power untill some1 said on here, but im glad ive got the carb now, but after xmas it'll be making way for a SRi engine 8)
