album takes up lots of bandwidth

Kev has been paying out silly money to keep the site going and with 1 person posting say a 1pm set of pics and then 10 users viewing the post

thats 10mb of bandwidth, see what i mean, why dont you try get some free webspace upload your pic there and then link it to the site in the normal way, the bandwidth will be used at your web web space so it doesnt really matter :P

thats what id do, its very expensive to run it all, maybe the album will come back in a limited format or similar, ask admin team.

isnt there another way of saving space (like deleting the forum pages after say page 20?) lets face it no one reads the old posts anyway

or maybe deleting user accounts that havent been used for a month (like hotmail does?)

Space is not the problem - the entire database for the forums only actually takes up 84.29mb at the moment - but with all the loading of pages and images form teh album and feature cars the site is currently using around 35gb of bandwidth per month. Last months was much much more than that - being around 60gb.

Anyone who knows about these things will be able to tell you that a hosting deal with that sort of bandwidth allowance isn't cheap. SO, until things have settled down a little and we can be sure we can afford the bandwidth for the album to go back up - it shall be staying down. It is for this exact reason that the novaload donation system was set up.

Also dave... the old pages dont affect the bandwidth if they are not viewed... yeah there area couple of kilobytes used with it having to access the database for that little bit longer, but it is more worth while having them there to look back on than to get rid of them.
