what to buy im thinking money aint tight but i'm a student i've got some money in the 2-3k mark and am thinking thats not enough to buy a clean astra gsi so i'm thinking stay nova till i finish my degree this year and get a job but i dont know what to buy a cheap sr and or gte but rust is a problem and mod it not with jap shite or buy a clean gsi and do subtle bits or buy a nova with the engine already transplanted?

Recon you should get a 1.4SR and just do a few mods.

Get a "K" plate GSi, paid ?1800 quid for mine,
82k on the clock, totally original.

PS: no air flow meter on "k" reg GSi's

....brilliant car.

if i was in your shoes i would go with the GSI but if ur gonna be practical i would go for the SR because this has lower running costs.

or u could just go for any nova with a mint shell and make it into an SR/GSI

not strictly true; mines a 1993 gsi on a k- plate ive got an air flow meter. its not down to the reg of car its the engine inside. they had alsorts.

oh..and in answer to question; get a tidy sri. not much slower than gsi. off the mark. easy to tune to beat gsi. (the money you save from choosing sri spend on upping the antee.)

squeaks, rattles, vibrations, one after another. Low ride, low profile tyres, u feel all the bumps. Loud engine, no power steering, shite brakes as standard, get peoples lights straight through the back windscreen, cramped, small, limited luxuries inside, not good on fuel. And you call this comfort!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a typical GSi summed up. infact its any nova summed up, makes you wonder why really!!

sri is deffo the best option

lower insurance than gsi but its a gsi spec shell has gsi brakes and suspension

plus as has been pointed out its a poerfull little engine, much better than the restrictive carb heap in the 14sr
