Overheating

Whenever im in a bit of traffic my car starts to overheat quite seriously.

The guy we bought it off said there was a crack in the expansion tank, would this cause this or are my problems more serious?

is the fan cutting in?

I think a crack could do this due to the system not being able to pressurise.

if was cracked watr would pss out. also it wouldnt b able to get as hot without the presure. check the valve is opening and sending water to the radiator. then make sure the rad fan is coming on wehn it shud!!

Surely a non pressurised system would allow it to overheat, beacuase it would not circulate properly and remove the heat efectively, cos if you leave the cap of it overheats!

yes and no. he would loose loads of water if it was gonna overheat in this way. he hasnt said hes loosing water
