water pump removal

iva got a 1.6 gte lump and the water pump has given up on life. i know the three allen key bolts have to be removed, but is there any thing that has to be done to the lower cambelt wheels etc? any ideas on prices for new water pumps? cheers.

hi there.
well if yer timing belt is anyway close to needing to be changed you might as well do that too since it has to come off anyway. when the pump is out make sure the ring gasket/seal comes off too and put the new one in that comes with the pump. not sure on a price as its been a few years since i've bought one but i'd guess about 40quid?!

Try and clean the hole a bit with some emery cloth, and smear a thin bit of grease around the "o" ring! the water pump also adjusts the tension of the belt! its like an oval shape! if it needs adjusting, the smear of grease will try and prevent the "o" ring from breaking!
