Do as rgu_stu suggested but instead of running the car, Just pull the fuel pump relay off and bridge the left and right hand connections (as look from the front of the car to the back) with a piece of wire, or even better two spade connectors and a piece of wire joining them. This will fire you fuel pump up without anything else being turned on.
Hope this helps Adam.

The Relay is situated on the bulkhead, near the Brake Servo and Octane plug.

Bridging electrical connectors near fuel...could have sworn I've been told not to do that for some reason?? :o

or park the car on a bit of a slope (front end downhill), then disonnect the fuel supply line, add some pipe of your own and syphon the tank content into a container.

or punch a screwdriver through it

What i do is disconnect the fuel line under the bonnet and then prime the pump and pump it inot a container.
