Hi does any one know what spped i would have been doing at 5500 rpm in 5th gear in a Nova GSi cos my clock was readin 125 but they are always innaccurate. Cheers.

i can't tell you a calculated answer.

but i may as well have a guess, 113mph.

we should runa book on this!

Well......When I had my 1400SR, at 8000 RPM! yes! 8000 RPM, in 5th gear my SR clock was showing 125 MPH, then with the digi in as well....it showed 126 mph. You might be able to calculate using the gearing set-up. We have to use this when using diferent diffs in my Mk2 Escort...its possible to get 160+ using a high ratio diff on them, and as low as 88 mph flat out!!!!!!!!!!!!

But......I wonder if anyone can find out how much the reading are false by.

we needto know what gearbox and profile tyres you have!!

at 5500 id guess u had the wide ratio box, so thats about 118mph init?

assuming 195/45r15:

nova gsi's original box is close ratio and long FD so im guessing its the close ratio box and 3.74fd

5500rpm is 107mph

6000rpm is 117mph

6800rpm is 133mph so if u can get to the rev limiter then your at that speed :)

hmm, he never reads what i say. im 99% sure hel have a WR box mate if he tops out at 5500.

hmm i wonder where the spreadsheet for those results came from too

In my GTE with an F13 box @ 5500 rpm with 15" wheels and a 50 profile I pulled 112 on the gps and 116 on the digi dash. With the limiter removed on my car I can go up past 7200 rpm, but digidash gets very innacurate and can't read gps because I'm shakin myself to bits!!!!

the results came from my Gearbox Graph spread sheet which i made by reversing all your formulas to give more coherent results and also fixing a few mathmatical errors you made :P

i uploaded it here if anyones interested

8000RPM :o What mods did you have in order for your 1.4 rev to 8000RPM. If you had no mods then your rev counter must have been wrong or something. There is no way the engine could have withstood being at 8000RPM without blowing up.

As far as i am aware the gear box is the original (need replacing soon, what would be best box for acceleration), it feels quite close. The tyres are 65 on 14" standard GSi alloys.

yeah your right there, mine went 8000+ cracked the whole head down the middle and broke most of the valves. was a right mess.

Im concerened now.............
On the r/r it showed 85mph top speed
top rpm was 5660.
Im not 2 sure he used 5th gear when r/r'd so, does this mean im producing more than 93 BHP??????

take it to a garage to get it to read correct then do the same rev's in the same gear and notice the difference
