Windows XP and the DVD software!

I think my DVD recored is recording in ntsc (or wotever the american dvd's are!)
The software came already on the computer, If i was to buy New software, could this overcome the problem?
Thing is, the software doesnt give me many options!

Well i aint got the net upstairs yet, but as soon as i do, il have a huuuuuge collection of DVD's lol
I was searching through and found this mind.....

>System(properties)
>Device Manager
>DVD/CD rom drives
>DVD writer
>DVD region :-afghanistan e.t.c

Now it says current region not selected. Iv only got 5 times to change the region. After this, nothing can change the final time!!!!! not even re-loading windows, or putting the dvd writer in another pc.
United kingdom is there, is it worth clicking on this and see what happens?
The current region not selected bit isnt in there again!

have you played any dvds yet?this came up on my pc when i first got it, just select uk, im always messing with pcs and with a format the option comes up again "select region blah"
