Starter not engaging flywheel!? :(

Is my starter motor fecked, or have I wired it up wrong?

I have just swapped my 1.3 SR for a 1.6 GTEi and after wiring in the starter (fat red wire on one side, and black/red wire on the other) it is just spinning, not engaging anything! Have I wired it wrong, missed a bit out, or is the motor buggered?

Really need help on this...all those horses and I can't play :cry:

before you take it out though, hit the solonoid (the cylinder on top of the starter) with a bar. will need to be a long bar. might just be stuck from lack out use

Gave it a whack, it worked for one start, then died...took it out and got it checked at garage....yep, its fecked now :(
