I was thinkin of the 1.4 16v cos cheap on tax and insurance but im not 100% at the mo, ill b wantin to tune the engine and get about 130bhp+ so would i be best goin for the 1.6 ???? cheers for any help

Can tune both reasonably easy to get 130bhp.

Depends, your talking about cheap tax, thats the least of your worries if you want to tune it heavily.

The 1400 is a little more unusual and will get you more intrest.

If i was to do another i think i would go for a 1400.

well the internals on the 1.4 are good for up 2 150bhp so theres your limit for reasonably priced tuning before u need uprated pistons/arp colts etc. if you're not lookin for more than 150bhp then go for the 1.4 if you're lookng for more then go for the 1.6 which has been proven to produce 180bhp without a turbo

its really about balancing up what ur looking for from your new engine as both are very tuneable

Depends what mods you are thinking of and how much you want to spend.

One of the most powerful 1.4 16v Novas belongs to a couple of guys who come on Novaload. The Engine produces around 160BHP, but the engine cost thousands to get it to produce that kind of power.

The cars specifications can be found here...

http://www.novaload.net/features/viewfeature.php?ref=1113

Take a look and see what they have achieved from the 1.4 16v engine, but like I said it cost thousands.

For a more respectable sum of around ?2000. You could probably get a 1.4 16v to produce around 120BHP by going with Twin webbers as apposed to throttle bodies.

At the end of the day you need to really plan out what you can afford. Dont think an exhaust and air filter will get you up to 140bhp.

1.6 16v insurance group 11

How you work that out?

Nova GSi's are group 11 but Corsa GSi's are group 10, not that means what insurance group his would be anyhow.

a lot of companys take the group of the engine actually and ben we are both right cause it depends on the doner car as follows

Derivative Year Model Insurance Grp

1.6 16V Sport 3dr Hatchback Corsa (1993-00) 10

Corsa 1.6i GSi 16v 3d Hatchback Corsa (1993-00) 11

hehehe :P

Swines have increased the GSi as i looked into about 2 years ago and it was definately group 10.

oh and for the record th 1.6 16v has made 280 bhp without a turbo i just made a typo earlier but it did cost a few beer tokens so i wonder what the max power could be with a turbo? think 300+ but the lag would be a pain in the arse

I wouldnt want a 300BHP turbo ona 1.6, anything near 250bhp on a NA engine would romp it anyhow.

hell i wouldnt want 300bhp either dont even want to think about the traction problems, chewed driveshafts etc. was just statin it for the record. im buildin a turbo 1.6 16v and im only wanting it to be 170bhp ish as after all the nova is a small car which will perform well with a decent amount of power anything above 200bhp and problems start coming with traction
