Cat or no cat

I have a 1.4 corsa sport and have beeen told by a few people that a new airfilter, i.e induction kit and removing the Cat will get about 20 BHP. This seems alot but is it true. If the cat is removed will there be problems from sensors and stuff. i know it will have to go back on at MOT.
