been at velos today

top guys, mentioned a lot about certain people on here (all good, bar a few nutters) mine acheived 106 bhp (85@wheels) at 6062rpm and a messy torque curve. Cacky knock sensor is a cause of my problems- car was performing inconsistantly; they say i need a new 'en.
They also talked cams and chip; then throttle bodies and DTA. At ?1700 not cheap, but if 190 bhp out of 1.6 16v, then 170 bhp in 1.6 8v is do-able. Worth ?1700? wadda u reckon? hope to post the graph on here later. Im looking for a chap on here that they mentioned today with 1.6 8v B+ head, cam and carbs. is it you mikeoxford? they mentioned you as an inspiration.

p.s. 170bhp is possible yip but a lot of money will need to be spent to get there!

might have been on about me. it does sound like my mods. it would have been nice if it was me but as will said quite a few people have them mods.

velos were well impressed by the quality of me rebuild considering i did it, and the results we were getting all day long on the RR and from them trying various tuning options.

ask me any qn if you need, but im sure most people on here would give the same answers anyway 8)

When CP and I went to Velos, Alan and Rob kept referring me to Dans Nova.

Dan managed to achieve 140bhp on a hot summers day (so in theroy should be reading more) and he has 127lbft flat torque curve which baically means after it peaks, the torque is still there and doesnt die down like some engines can.

These figures aren't just show and no go, Dan's car is also (unofficially) the quickest N/A 1.6 8v down the 1/4 mile strip with a time of under 15 seconds, which is very impressive.

There are loads of different combinations to achieve different power outputs with these engines. Breenys old Blue Nova had a relaly good torque figure and before the rebuild my engine was a nice peaky engine.

It'll be intresting to see what times people get down the 1/4 mile next year as I'm sure there will be plenty of "friendly competiton" between those of us with 1.6 8v's :)

well thats the funny thing mate. if got a standard gsi 1.6 8v. (E16SE) they at velos reckon ive got a knock sensor. im not so sure, don't they mean the crank sensor maybe? Chap said when pinking occurs this knock sensor retards the timing. he thinks thats whats going on.
Only mods to my E16SE are B+ head and piperX panel filter. Thats it.

This inspiration take the piss thing you lot are on about is no more than another way of saying copy or 'blueprint' those of you who are ahead in the game. then just going one better. :D
