View Full Version : SRi the way forward
I have a 92 j SRi K&N induction kit and a full s/s exhaust.
what is the best thing to do now 4 more power?
NoS, Chip, Cam, Throttle bodies / Carbs, Drop a valver lump in it?
So many options it depends on how much you wanna spend.
Change the engine to a GSi one (?100sh) very easy to do,
Then transfer all your engine mods over to it.
I raced this guy in a 'J' plate SRi,
he had an induction kit & a back box,
no word of a lie, I raced him for about 5 miles,
we stopped at 3 sets of traffic lights
& I absolutely embarassed him everytime.
My Nova GSi is completely standard !
ok no more silly comments like that!!!
A gsi will clearly beat an SRi because thay are 100bhp as standard the Sri is only 80BHP!!!!!!!
with an induction and back box then it will have 85 at a push....
If i could afford the insurance on a bigger engine then i wou ld have bought a GSI in the first place!!!
:?
thats weird as i kept up with modded gsis in mine.
cam+chip would be my next step. be careful what cam you get. go for a high torque rather than a very high revving model!
my sis had a gsi and it pissed all over my sri
but it had a full system and manifold and little gsi wheelies
and was low as f**k
maybe shes just a better driver than you mate ;)
that figures speak for themselves
80 v 100??????
Would the fact that you beat a gsi have anything to do wi the fact that you have 1.6 16v under the bonnet? probably runnin 120+ bhp?
nope, i was runing 93bhp (decat+filter+full magnex + manifold).
and ye i beat them a bit too easy now runing 160+ bhp
looks like i need a manifold then dunit?
What do ya reckon i will be runnin at da mo?
Bet your nova goes like a rocket!!!
i wouldnt to be honest. you cant get the magnex jobbie anymore, and unles your runing 40's i dont recomend a 4branch.
i take it you dont have a cat on the car? this is the 1st thing to change!!
ya the cat has gone.... it caught on all the speed bumps anyway
Who says you have to tell the insurance company,
or the dvla for that matter ?
Engines practically look the same anyway !
except it says 1.6 injection on it!!!!
except it says 1.6 injection on it!!!!
Mine says "VAUXHALL"
me thinks only GTE's had 1.6 injection on them.
U wanna push ftro serious power,, TB's. ?800+
Bit less T40s. ?200+
Cheap inc. set up cam, ?150 or so
Head work done ?250+
Anyhting in list above cam nail GSi's, Cam and head work nail them too.

its muppet attitudes like that which result in higher insurance for the rest of us in the long run.

i think the sri is a bit of an under-estimated beast. i drove one i nearly bought (off a copper, it war proper bo test drive) felt just as quick as my gsi off standstill as the pair of them sit there scrabling for grip. sri is down some on power but is a smidgy bit lighter too (thinner interior trimming, sound proofing) it was a lot cheaper to buy the sri than my gsi was (although my gsi was newer, low miles, and cleaner) and remember sri is group 7 to gsi 12 insurance. so my point? dunno. er its late.
sri maks a better top trump!..? for the money?..
sound.
just mod if mate. keep it light (little ice) no big rims (you'll regret it when u come to drive) and buy quality tuning gifts.
