View Full Version : ex-nova owners, what did you move on to?

It's been a few years since I've had a Nova, the last being a GTE track car.
I was always attracted to Novas for their bang to buck, but now they are fetching big money, I doubt I will have another.
Purely out of interest/fun, if you have moved on from Novas, what did you move onto?

Having owned Novas for over 30 years (eek) I've moved on a few times, but still have one in my life.

The most memorable departures were a Lotus Esprit Turbo and a selection of Escort Cosworths.

Very nice choice, maybe I can pickup another to have a play with.
I have a couple of 172 cups, which are as close as a modern day nova I could find, that's cheap and throwaway.
Great little cars, especially on track. I've now had a Lotus Elise for the past few years, which is awesome, but I am missing owning something retro.

My last daily nova was my silver GSI then moved onto something with a turbo and 4wd was the goal, used my S3 daily for 14 years now into a A4 TDI

I?ve always had a nova in one for or the other since 1995 though just not daily drivers now

Haven't had one as a daily since 2016 i think, have a corsa b zlet i use daily and a mk3 astra. Did buy an alpina to use daily but then realised it was worth too much to ruin so thats another motor that never gets used like the nova lol

Still have both Novas I bought in 1991 and 1998, both in storage in a somewhat sorry state. Need more time/space!

Sold my first two novas to get the GT4 in 2005 - which I've still got now.
Sold the blue v6 in 2015 (feels like a lifetime ago!) to make room for the Super Bee - which at the moment is considerably less together than the picture below.

And currently use this as a daily

I tend to buy cars and keep them, aside from the Novas!

Yeah to some of the purists I've ruined mine, but I have no intentions of selling so just do what I want with it. lol

Love those GT4's, friend had one imported back in the day, and I adored it, and they go/sound fantastic!

The image of those two in the garage goes to show how big those yank cars are, They are awesome, but I wouldn't want to park them in tesco ! lol

On my second myself, had my S3 as a daily for 14 years, now onto an A4 TDI sline black edition etc etc, 650 miles per tank of fuel ain?t bad, but the S3 is being slightly repurposed at the moment https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220508/009ed8dbbc5f01d5270ba790e0935967.jpg

Sounds like you got same as me, mines a B8.5 Black Ed. 2.0TDi Quattro, manual box and bunged Revo software on it, does things a 2 ton saloon car really shouldnt be able to do its alot of fun for a TDi.

Now my daily commute is minutes not miles ill be moving to petrol, S4 Avant probably. Did consider an SQ5 but they fugly.

Them S3's are worth some money now and rare in yellow too!!

Only difference is mine isn’t Quattro, weight is about 1600kg, it’s interesting to drive in the wet haha!

I could be seriously tempted into the S4 diesel tbh

Sadly my old S3 had a fair bit of rot setting in, a shame because it was 99% original but couldn’t justify doing a refurb on it, but it’s heart will live on

I've been through a selection of tedium and then made a drunken lockdown buy of an R53 Mini Cooper S, its done OK as a daily commuter car with some fun in the middle but its got tired from that so just picked up a 2018 MK6 Polo GTI 2.0 DSG.... holy fuckballs that thing is just stupid. Its quick enough (although the OEM tyres need to go, they would struggle pulling the skin of a rice pudding), crazy comfy, spacious, does 45-50mpg on the commute/work trips, makes farty noises, what more does a midlife crisis want for low costs :D lol

I haven't really moved on, but have changed to a Daily/show car setup instead of using mine daily.
Went to a Corsa B Sport, followed by a mk5 Astra SRi but have now moved away from Vauxhall to a Ford... a Focus ST Diesel... yes an STD.. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230223/ebef34e4365bff9d14dc7c55291a1bb4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230223/2056a01e7ec6db98c8439e38ace1c256.jpg

VAG didn't interest me, and new Vauxhalls are not great either.

Modern fords are great cars to be fair, plus you can still get "fun" ones.
The new vauxhalls look good, however they have nothing fun left :( the 130bhp 1.2 engine is quite a nice little thing in a Corsa but its not quite an SRI :lol
